I was very fortunate with this little guy. His donor body was a Baby Leaper, which I feel lucky to have gotten. Leaper was the perfect custom bait pony. His symbols were both very damaged, as were his freckles. The first few plugs of his mane were shaved. His hair was badly frizzy, and I think someone used an iron on his tail because the hairs were a little melted. His entire body was slightly discoloured and he had a few small marks on the side I didn't scan. There was bad rust in his tail, and when I removed it I found that the washer was almost completely gone and had become a fine coat of red dust coating the inside of the body. That accounted for some of the discoloration. Despite his many problems, his body and eyes (the only parts I wanted to keep) were remarkably undamaged.
The marks came right off with toothpaste, and I cleaned the inside with Windex and water. I made some important discoveries about Peek-A-Boo necks which I have detailed on my customs page. At first I left his neck intact and put his tail in from the outside. I tried gluing the mane plugs in from the outside too, and that was okay for display, but not very sturdy, so I decided to take his head off and rerooted the mane. When I cut the cup joint piece loose from his neck it fell back inside the head and I ended up fighting with it for a half an hour before the thing broke along its seam. Of course that made it easy to finally get it out and I just glued it back together.
I had a really tough time with his mane because the shape of the head didn't allow me to get the needle through the plug holes. And they were so close together they ended up ripping when I was half way done. But some carefull gluing with my trusty glue gun completly hid this.
The ice diamonds are arranged differently on either side because I couldn't decide which way to pattern them. The symbols still match in size and position though, and I happen to like both sides. Just like other babies, he's got a simpler symbol then his parent. In this case he's got only 5 ice crystals instead of 8. I painted his freckles across his nose like a Playtime Baby Brother, but they are white like his Daddy. I used santa hair for his mane and tail, and the strip of green was from a donor Medley. The green is on the inside, just like his Daddy. So it doesn't really show on scans that well.
I think he turned out wonderfully! The only thing I'm not happy with is that his body green is a bit too yellow, but I can live with that. Of course, I will be making him a bandana too, I'll post pics of that when I'm done.
