Baby Ice Crystal
History

Baby Ice CrystalI created Baby Ice Crystal by accident, actually. I love the male ponies, and when I learned there were six I didn't even know about in the UK, I was excited! My favourite is Ice Crystal (well duh!), and my name is Crystal, so it was the perfect pony ID for me. Unfortunately, it was already taken. Turned out all my other favourites were too, so I decided to be Baby Ice Crystal. I know it's not very original, so sue me, this little guy's really grown on me.

I'm one for following the pattern when it comes to ponies, so of course he had to look like a miniature version of his parent, which made him a Playtime Baby Brother, so I gave him a blue stripped bandana to match the others of that set. He sometimes wears a blue ribbon in his tail too, but it always gets snagged on things, so he doesn't like it. Plus it makes him look like a girl!

Process

Baby Ice Crystal's past lifeI was very fortunate with this little guy. His donor body was a Baby Leaper, which I feel lucky to have gotten. Leaper was the perfect custom bait pony. His symbols were both very damaged, as were his freckles. The first few plugs of his mane were shaved. His hair was badly frizzy, and I think someone used an iron on his tail because the hairs were a little melted. His entire body was slightly discoloured and he had a few small marks on the side I didn't scan. There was bad rust in his tail, and when I removed it I found that the washer was almost completely gone and had become a fine coat of red dust coating the inside of the body.  That accounted for some of the discoloration. Despite his many problems, his body and eyes (the only parts I wanted to keep) were remarkably undamaged.

The marks came right off with toothpaste, and I cleaned the inside with Windex and water. I made some important discoveries about Peek-A-Boo necks which I have detailed on my customs page. At first I left his neck intact and put his tail in from the outside. I tried gluing the mane plugs in from the outside too, and that was okay for display, but not very sturdy, so I decided to take his head off and rerooted the mane. When I cut the cup joint piece loose from his neck it fell back inside the head and I ended up fighting with it for a half an hour before the thing broke along its seam. Of course that made it easy to finally get it out and I just glued it back together.

I had a really tough time with his mane because the shape of the head didn't allow me to get the needle through the plug holes. And they were so close together they ended up ripping when I was half way done. But some carefull gluing with my trusty glue gun completly hid this.

His right side symbol
His left side symbol The ice diamonds are arranged differently on either side because I couldn't decide which way to pattern them. The symbols still match in size and position though, and I happen to like both sides. Just like other babies, he's got a simpler symbol then his parent. In this case he's got only 5 ice crystals instead of 8. I painted his freckles across his nose like a Playtime Baby Brother, but they are white like his Daddy. I used santa hair for his mane and tail, and the strip of green was from a donor Medley. The green is on the inside, just like his Daddy. So it doesn't really show on scans that well.

I think he turned out wonderfully! The only thing I'm not happy with is that his body green is a bit too yellow, but I can live with that. Of course, I will be making him a bandana too, I'll post pics of that when I'm done.

Finally a real boy... Doesn't he look great?
Story

All the Baby Brother cardback stories have something to do with their symbol, usually involves a wish being granted, and often includes a friend. So in the grand style of ponies everywhere, I present Baby Ice Crystal's painfully sweet story!
May I have this dance?
One day Baby Ice Crystal was playing in a high mountain meadow close to where he lived with his Daddy. But Hide and Seek isn't much fun when you're the only one there! "It's so lonely here." he sighed "I wish I had someone to play with." Just then a butterfly floated by on the breeze. Laughing, Baby Ice Crystal called to it. "Hello Madam Butterfly, did you come to visit the pretty flowers too?" In response the butterfly drifted up and tickled Baby Ice Crystal's nose. The little green pony giggled. "I guess you want to play! May I have this dance ?"

All morning long Baby Ice Crystal danced in the meadow with the butterfly. In the afternoon they wore themselves out playing tag amongst the flowers. When Mr. Sun was going to sleep Baby Ice Crystal started off for home. "I'll see you tomorrow" he called to his new friend!
