Blinky's Explorations

Blinky
Hi! Did you come to play?

I know alot about Moondreamers stuff from other countries, do you wanna hear?
Okay!
First I want to say thanks to Amanda, who told me about some of the items. And I've been learning a whole bunch of new things too! I can't wait to tell you all my exciting news!

And if anyone knows any other stuff, please tell me, kay?
I really really wanna know!

The Dolls
Foreign Variations
The Moondreamer dolls issued in the UK were only slightly different then the NA versions. They are almost imperceptibly larger and the paint shades and clothing are also very slightly different. Also, the copyright information on the small of their backs is printed larger, with the year left-aligned instead of centred like the NA ones. Unless you have the two versions together though, you won't notice a difference. I'm not sure if the entire doll line was available in other countries or not, it seems safe to assume it was for now.

Confirmed foreign dolls released in France: Crystal Starr, Whimzee (with white tights and pink shoes), Dream Gazer, Blinky et Usa, Céleste. (Thanks benedicte.lajous)

UK Exclusives
I know almost nothing about this yet, but it is certain that they do exist. Because of Hasbro UK's habit of continuing toy lines that Hasbro America has cancelled I suspect that these dolls are new characters from a later year (or years?). If I am correct, it is possible that the previously thought unreleased 1988 Moondreamers line did come out in the UK. I must stress, there is no solid evidence of this yet, just a theory.

The mysterious Star Child has short wavy aqua coloured hair like Whimzee. The former owner of one had forgotten her name, but remembered that it was Whimzee's little sister. I haven't confirmed if this is true or if it was just a child's imagination, but the two do have the exact same hairstyle. She wore Blinky's dress with a silver headband and the usual silver tights and seemed to come with Ursa, or at least a bear looking exactly like Ursa.

Whatever the answer to this puzzle, it is still a fact that there ARE different Moondreamers dolls found in the UK. As I learn more about this I will post the answers right here. For now check Frolic's Mysteries for clues about these elusive Moondreamers.

A Comic Series?
1988 UK annual I don't know too much about this either. What I do know is that there was an annual produced in the UK in 1988 (at right), and this is interesting for two reasons. First, I don't think they made annuals unless there was a comic or TV series to go with it. I'm not sure about the existence of either. Second, the timing is strange! Moondreamers were only around for a bit of 1986 and 1987 in North America. The annual is one of a few cases of Moondreamers items being produced after 1987, but more examples have been popping up recently. Moondreamers were definitely around a little later in foreign countries, but in what form? Which leads to another interesting point...

 Guest Appearances!
Moondreamers made repeated appearances in the UK comic "My Little Pony and Friends" starting in 1987. They were featured in puzzles and activities in a number of these comics at least up until 1989 and in that year's My Little Pony annual.

To a Sweet Granddaughter has Whimzee, is standard sized and comes with a badge. Happy Birthday is standard sized, pictures Stardust and also comes with a badge. There was also a larger card that folded out into a poster to colour. It featured Crystal Starr, Bucky Buckaroo, Dozer, Bitsy and Roary with Dream Central.
