My Little Sailors

A whole team of ponies dedicated to protecting the universe and the future Crystal Dream Valley.

History

In case you haven't figured it out yet, these guys are patterned after the characters of Sailor Moon. I actually did this sketch some time back (uhh... 1997?), but I've been seeing some Sailor Moon ponies, so I decided to share this with you. I was planning to do these guys as real customs eventually, but that project never found the time or materials really. Pinwheel did do some real customs based on this sketch, you can view them in her customs gallery.

Process

As you may have figured out from the rest of my page, I'm a pony traditionalist. So the MLS's had to fit into the pony pattern, but also the Sailor Moon pattern. Sailor Moon became a Princess Brush 'n Grow because she's a princess and her hair keeps changing length on the show. She's a pegasus because of the angel theme that became increasingly obvious in Sailor Moon. Her symbol is her Stars season transformation locket. Baby Moon has Luna P as her symbol. The four inner scouts are all earth ponies and follow a pattern: hair is their own hair colour (except Jupiter), body is their costume colour, ribbon is the bow colour, and symbol is the planetary symbol that appears when they do their Stars season attacks. The four outer scouts follow the same pattern, except the symbol is their soul items, and Pluto and Baby Saturn's body colours are closer to their actual skin tone. Big Brother Mask of course had to have a hat, and his symbol is his trademark rose. When I was planning to make these guys, I was also going to give him a cape.

The other four that are part of the MLS set are not in the picture. The Sailor Starlights naturally make their appearance as Rockin' Beat ponies because of their rock star status. And it was obvious to make Chibi Chibi a Teeny Tiny pony called Little Chibi because all the TT ponies names start with "little", and that just happens to be what "chibi" means.

Story
(Warning: contains Sailor Moon spoilers)

    Some time ago, during the Silver Millennium, the beautiful Moon Kingdom ruled by a lovely Princess was tragically destroyed. But the daughter of the Princess and her team of guardians, the My Little Sailors, were reincarnated in a place over the rainbow on Earth called Dream Valley. These ponies grew up leading normal lives until the day Luna (the aid of the former Moon Princess in the form of a talking cat) came to Bunny and gave her a magic locket. Now whenever she raises her locket and says "Moon Pony Power - MAKEUP!" she transforms into Princess Brush 'n Grow Moon to fight the powers of evil.

    Princess Brush 'n Grow Moon sought out the other My Little Sailors one by one: Mercury, Mars, Jupiter, and Venus. Together they fought against the forces of their enemies: Queen Beryl, Allan and Ann, and poor translation. A mysterious rose throwing warrior named Big Brother Mask was there to help them along the way. Eventually, they found out that Mask was the reincarnated Prince that the Moon Princess once loved, and Bunny was none other then the Moon Princess! Not long after they discovered this, a little pink haired pegasus named Baby Bunny arrived. She was their daughter, come from the future Crystal Dream Valley to steal Bunny's locket. And there were new enemies to fight: the Black Moon and the Four Weird Sisters. All the problems got sorted out though, and Baby Bunny went back to the future to join another My Little Sailor called Pluto. And this was when the Sailor Scouts thought their fight was over for good. They were wrong.

    A new force of evil arose and two new My Little Sailors called Neptune and Uranus arrived mysteriously. The team wondered what side the new Sailors were on. They were fighting the evil Death Busters and the Witches Five too, but they seemed to have their own hidden agenda. And to make matters worse, another Sailor called Saturn appeared. She was supposed to be the promised saviour, but she had been corrupted and now threatened to destroy Dream Valley. But Princess Brush 'n Grow Moon, the My Little Sailors and Uranus and Neptune defeated evil once again. It turned out that Saturn had been possessed by a demon all along! In the end Saturn sacrificed herself, but came back as Newborn Saturn and was left in the care of Pluto, Neptune, and Uranus.

    The My Little Sailors fought The Dead Moon Circus. Sometime later, Newborn Saturn magically made herself grow into Baby Saturn, and granted new powers to all the My Little Sailors. Another mystery was in the making. Three new Sailors had arrived, but they were not from this planet, and they didn't look like any Sailor the team had seen before. They were Rockin' Beat Starlights named Rockin' Beat Star Maker, Rockin' Beat Star Fighter, and Rockin' Beat Star Healer. They were in Dream Valley looking for their lost Princess and fighting the nasty Sailor Stars. Around this time another mysterious pony showed up. She was a Teeny Tiny baby pony who could only say one word: "chibi". So they named her Little Chibi. Naturally, after a climactic naked battle, all the My Little Sailors triumphed over evil once more and everyone went home.
