| "That's marvellous,"
said Scowlette, looking at the strangely-shaped contraption on Professor
Grimaces's workbench. "Are you sure it will work?"
"Of course it will work," rasped Igon. "My master invented it. He's a great scientist, he's..." "He has been known to invent things that don't work," Scowlette said sharply. "Like you for instance!" Scowlette looked scornfully at the monsterous blob. "You're nothing but a failed experiment." Suddenly Igon grew two long arms that reached out to touch the contraption on the workbench. "Stop that, you slobbering wreck!" commanded Professor Grimace. "Don't you dare touch my Starbot. Why if it wasn't for you, I'd have a proper laboratory to work in instead of this disgusting place. Oh, if only I hadn't made my one big mistake." Igon was Professor Grimace's big mistake. He was such an enormous mistake that he'd ruined the professor's career. The professor treated the monstrous blob most unkindly, but Igon adored his master and would do anything for him. "I won't do the Starbot any harm, master," said Igon. "I just want to show Scowlette how it works." ---- an activity where you can copy Scowlette square by square ----- "Yes, show me how it works," commanded Scowlette impatiently. "My dear mother might come in any minute now. This is my idea and if it's successfull I will become the new ruler of Starry Up." "It may have been your idea, but without me that's all it would have been," said Professor Grimace. "I have..." "He has turned your idea into this startling Starbot," crooned Igon, stroking the smooth, shiny metal shape. "Ouch! What's this? What's happened?" "Igon you blundering blob!" shouted the professor. "You've touched the drilling control panel. Let me get there, I must stop it." Just then, the Sleep Creeps - Squawker, Shiner, and Creaky - scurried into the laboratory. "Quickly!" yelled Squawker to the other two. "Jump inside this lump of metal. Her Scowliness will never find us then. We can get some sleep at last." Before anyone could stop them the Sleep Creeps had jumped inside the Starbot. There was a load whirring noise and the Starbot soared into the air. Two seconds later it had drilled a hole in the ceiling and disappeared through it! ---- an activity where you can match Sleep Creeps to their silhouettes ---- ---- an activity where you can match which Starbots are the same ---- "Get after it, Igon," ordered Professor Grimace. "I haven't finished filling it with Negatron energy yet." "I'll bring it back, master," simpered the monstrous blob. "You know I'll do anything you ask. I'll..." "Stop slobbering and go!" said the professor, pushing Igon roughly through the hole in the ceiling. "But what...?" began Igon. "Just go!" thundered the professor, taking a pair of bellows and working them furiously. "There," he said to Scowlette. "that blew him on his way." Suddenly, the professor found himself covered by a pile of grimy rubble! "I think your startling Starbot has drilled its way through the castle roof," sneered Scowlette, as she looked down at Professor Grimace. And as the professor tried to struggle from under the rubble, Scowlette added, "What a shame you didn't have time to tell Igon how to bring the Starbot back. By now it will have drilled its way up to Starry Up. You'd better go after it, Grimace, and bring it back before those mouldyMoondreamers find it." Meanwhile, on Starry Up, Whimzee was trying to create a perfect dream for an Earth child who was frightened of spiders. "Shimmering stars Whimzee, does it really matter if you make the spiders pink or lemon?" asked Celeste. "I'm sure they'll look really cute and cuddly whichever colour they are." "They will look nice, won't they," agreed Whimzee. "Nobody could be frightened of pretty spiders with long curly eyelashes. All right, I'll make them pink." "I hope she doesn't change her mind," Celeste whispered to Sparky Dreamer. "She has created all the other dreams, this is the last one, and it's time Galaxia and I towed the moon into place." ---- an activity where you can connect the dots to form Galaxia ---- ---- an activity where you can draw a star border around Moondreamers and colour them ---- ---- an activity where you can spot differences between two pictures ---- It was always Whimzee who decided which dream would be best to send to each dreamer on Earth. But because she wanted every dream to be perfect, she often spent too much time on each one and often changed her mind. Then the other Moondreamers would become impatient, for they couldn't load the Dream Crystals into the stars until Whimzee had created a dream for every young earthling. However this time Whimzee didn't change her mind, and as soon as she had created the beautiful pink spider dream, the Dream Crystal for the night popped out of the Dream Machine. "There's something wrong with the crystal!" cried Sparky. "What do you mean, something's wrong with the crystal?" asked Celeste, hurrying back to Sparky Dreamer. "there's something inside it! It's growing!" said Sparky. "I'm afriad I'll have to detach the spasmodic sparkulator from the..." Sparky continued to mutter under her breath as she chipped away at the crystal with one of her strange star tools. "My dream, what will happen to my dream?" asked Whimzee. "Don't worry," mumbled Sparky, "I told you what I was doing, weren't you listening Whimzee?" "You know I never understand you when you talk about mechanical things," replied Whimzee. "But I won't worry as long as you don't spoil my pink spider dream." "I fed your dream back into the Dream Machine when I detached the spasmodic sparkulator," explained Sparky. "We'll have to reprogram the dream into a new crystal." "Sparky, there's a strange noise coming from inside that crystal!" said Celeste, peering over Sparky's shoulder. "oh look! Be carefull, something's coming out of it." "It's a Starbot with a drilling device attached to it." said Sparky. "That grusome lot from Monsterous Middle must have sent it. Somehow it managed to drill its way inside our Dream Crystal. The strange thing is..." Sparky activated her mean thoughts detector. "There isn't any Negatron Energy coming from it!" ---- an activity where you can connect the dots to form Igon ---- ---- an activity where you can follow the arrows to form Professor Grimace ---- ---- an activity where you can copy the laboratory square by square ---- But suddenly red sparks started shooting out of the Dream Machine. "Whimzee! Turn the green emergency handle!" ordered Sparky. "Someone from Monstrous Middle is underneath the Dream Machine!" There was an angry grating noise as Whimzee turned the handle. "What's happening! What am I doing!" shrieked Whimzee. "Starry skies! That was close," sighed Sparky, when the grating noise had stopped. "It's alright, Whimzee, by turning that handle you activated the automatic metal floor that protects the Dream Machine. Whoever's under the Dream Machine is trapped. See, the red sparks have stopped, there isn't any Negatron Energy getting into the Dream Machine now." "The Starbot's trying to get inside inside the Dream Machine!" warned Celeste. "Look, it's trying to drill a hole in it. Do something Sparky!" "I'm a mechanic, not a miracle worker," said Sparky, dashing towards the Starbot. "Well try to do something mechanical," begged Whimzee. "Quickly Sparky, save our Dream Machine." Sparky found the drilling control panel and stopped the Starbot just in time. "Only doing my job," she smiled as Celeste praised her. "But look, what have we here?" "It's the Sleep Creeps," laughed Celeste, as the three sleeping creatures tumbled from the hollow part of the Starbot. ---- an activity where you can finish the pictures of Sleep Creeps ---- At the word 'asleep', the Sleep Creeps leapt to their feet. "We're not asleep, your Scowliness!" shrieked Squawker. "We were..." Squawker blinked round in amazement. Because the Sleep Creeps were now awake, mean thoughts filled their minds, Sparky's mean thought detector was beeping loudly. "Run, you two!" shouted Squawker. "We're in Starry Up, not Monstrous Middle." "It's all your fault!" Creaky snarled at the Starbot, before following Squawker and Shiner out of the Dream Chamber. "Shouldn't we stop them?" asked Whimzee anxiously. "They'll fill Starry Up with mean, nasty thoughts." "It's all right, Galaxia's outside," explained Celeste. "She'll capture them and take them to Bucky Buckaroo." "Then Bucky will lift a cover off a Black Hole and throw them back down to Monstrous Middle," said Sparky. "You know," she added, "this Starbot is a very clever design. I think we'll keep it. Now if I regulate the perpen..." "Sparky, before you get lost in a mechanical world of your own, just tell me if I can reprogram my pink spider dream," urged Whimzee. "Oh, yes, of course you can," replied Sparky. "Then Celeste cam find Galaxia and tow the moon into place. I think I'll take this Starbot to my workshop, it's quieter there." "What about whoever's trapped beneath the Dream Machine?" asked Whimzee. "The metal floor will create a magnetic flow that gravitates against..." began Sparky, then she shrugged. "Whoever's under the Dream Machine will be forced down to Monstrous Middle," she said. "So it's all right to reprogram the dream." "Maybe I should make the spiders lemon after all," mused Whimzee, but at that moment Crystal Starr hurried into the Dream Chamber. "What is going on?" demanded the Moondreamers leader. "It's way past time for towing the moon into place." "Whimzee and Celeste will explain," said Sparky. "I'm taking my startling Starbot away." "They can explain later," said Crystal firmly. "Get sparkling, Moondreamers." "I've kept the spiders pink," said Whimzee. "The Dream Crystal is ready and we're ready to send happy dreams to every dreamer." If the Moondreamers had been listening, they might have heard Scowlette's angry words when Professor Grimace and Igon landed upside down in Monstrous Middle. "That's another beautifully monstrous idea you've ruined, Grimace!" shrieked Scowlette. Igon quickly made himself invisible, he'd ruined the plan, not the professor. The monstrous blob knew his master would soon remember that. And it wouldn't be wise to be around just then. |
