Calacirya | The Site

"Then Turgon pondered long the counsel of Ulmo, and there came
into his mind the words that were spoken to him in Vinyamar:
'Love not too well the work of thy hands and the devices of the heart;"*

Site FAQ

1. When was the site created?

I created this site on the 10th of May 2000 and it is still heavily under construction.

2. What is Calacirya?

Calacirya is Quenya for light-cleft. The Calacirya was the great ravine in the Pelóri (the mountain chain that ran down the east of Aman - the Undying Lands). It was the only pass in the mountains and was created so that the Telori could still see the stars while enjoying the Light of the Two Trees.

"Even among the radiant flowers of the Tree-lit gardens of Valinor they longed still at times to see the stars; and therefore a gap was made in the great walls of the Pelóri,"
(The Silmarillion, Of Eldamar)

The high green hill of Túna was raised in the Calacirya and "upon the crown of Túna the city of the Elves was built, the white walls and terraces of Tirion; and the highest of the highest of the towers of that city was the Tower of Ingwë, Mindon Eldaliéva, whose silver lamp shone far out into the mists of the sea." (ibid.). After Morgoth escaped from Valinor the Calacirya was fortified, "in the Calacirya they set strong towers and sentinels,"(The Silmarillion, Of the Sun and the Moon).
I thought because of what it was, Calacirya would be good name for my site which I hope lets a little light through.

3. Which html editor has been used

I haven't used one, I can't afford one, I just used Notepad. However for a few of the images I used Adobe Photoshop which I was luckily able to borrow from the library.
