  A vast gallery of work by artists inspired by Tolkien as well as maps, family trees and other assorted information.
• Nightrunner.com
  The featured image and top ten images are a nice touch.
• Demons Image Archive-The Lidless eye
  All a bit black and demon-like, but what else would you expect. The pictures are good, much like the above, though this is the only one with some maps from Karen Wynn Fonstad's Atlas of Middle-earth.

Lord of the Rings Movie sites

• The Tolkien Movie Site
  One of the first and one of the best.
• TheOneRing.net
  I like this one the most, but it's not everyones favotite.
• Ringbearer
  Lots and lots of stuff on the upcoming movies.
• Tolkien Online - The One Ring
  Nice design lots of news. Its more than just a movie site though.
• The Official Site
  It has its good points, (i.e. the graphics) but there is no real news.

Tolkien Resources

• Ardalambion
  An amazing amount of work on Tolkien's languages - pages upon pages of great information.
• The Encyclopaedia of Arda
  A long running project, which will take a long time, all the entries are there and some are very good indeed. There is lots more to add but for a world such as the one Tolkien created there almost always will be.
• The Barrow Downs
  A collection of information, facts, theories, art (with captions), and ideas about the works of J.R.R. Tolkien. There is a lot more to come so keep your eye on this one.
• Mellonath Daeron
  The language guild of Forodrim it has lots of good information on Tengwar as well as contents of HoME and assorted language reference material.
• The Tolkien Archives
  A particularly large audio library and good histories of the races of Middle-earth, plus other information.
• The Tolkienist
  Some interesting short essays information though all the tons of fancy graphics and other fantasy stuff don't fit very well on my little 15in screen.
• Cabed-en-Aras
  It says "the Tolkien-site that has got it all!" I wouldn't quite say that but it is easy to navigate and the impressive resources are plentiful.
• The Web-book
  Information and names and the best family trees you will find (I think) plus other bits and pieces concentrating on names/people.
• The Grey Havens
  A large amount of interesting short essays even if some are little simplistic or opinionated. The one on the size of Balrogs is particularly interesting.
• Ring Lord
  Dedicated to Tolkien and his books this site has lots of fancy graphics, and appears to be very popular with 25 Hobbits.
• The Hobbit-hole
  New but very promising with lots of information and a nice layout. You have GOT to see the Virtual Reality hobbit hole!
• The Tolkien Archives
  Great race histories, biography, essays and more. Altogether a quality site.

Link Sites

• The Mirror of Galadriel
  Practically all the Tolkien sites of any relevance and kept up to date. However there is little other than a list of names so you have to sift through them yourself.
• 25 Hobbits
  The top Tolkien sites, rated by you. Not entirely representative however as not everyone is a member. Please go to 25 Hobbits and vote for this site here! It will be just as quick, and you will vote for this site at the same time.
• The One Ring
  the complete guide to Tolkien Resources. It is not just a very good link site it has some other stuff to but that is its main function. The great thing about it is it is it sieves out dead links and gives a brief description with a few opinions about them to complete the mix.
• The JRR Tolkien Information page
  A lot of links but not kept updated.

Message boards

• Fingolfin.com
  My favourite. Easy to see what is happening and intelligent discussion (usually). Also a nice fan art section.
• Entmoot
  It claims to be the biggest Tolkien ezboard forum, and I believe it. I still don't know what to think about ezboards as although they re easy to see the whole post it is harder to see when there are new messages, which tend to be shorter than other boards. Some inteligent discussions though.
• The White Council
  A little harder to follow and less aesthetically pleasing. Lots of people choose to visit it though.

Societies

• The Tolkien Society
  The greatest of them all, well I would say that because I'm a member!
• The Mythopoeic Society
  Studies mainly the works of the Inklings: J.R.R. Tolkien, C.S. Lewis, Charles Williams, et al. as well as other Fantasy literature.
• Unquendor
  The Dutch and Flemish Tolkien Society.
• Arthedain
  The Tolkien Society of Norway. There are both Norsk and English versions of the site.
• Forodrim
  The Stockholm Tolkien Society. There are both Svensk and English versions of the site. The Mellonath Daeron (mentioned above) is the language guild of the Forodrim.
• Mithlond
  The Gothenburg Tolkien Society of Sweden. Formed in 1981 it was until 19997 part of the Forodrim but is now completely independent.
• Suomen Tolkien-Seura
  The Finnish Tolkien Society, founded in 1992 it has about two hundred members.
• The Czech Tolkien WWW Page
  The Czech Tolkien Society was founded in 1992 and contains members from both the Czech and Slovak Republics.
• Tolkien en VF
  The French Tolkien Association, founded in March 1997 produces a bi-annual journal.
• Deutsche Tolkien Gesellschaft
  The German Tolkien Society was founded in just 1997. Impressive site though I don't understand much of it!
• Societą Tolkieniana Italiana
  The Italian Tolkien Society.

  Sells new, second-hand and rare books and has a specific Tolkien page.
• Tolkienwinkel
  Started life as the sales department of Unquendor, the Dutch Tolkien society, (Tolkienwinkel is Dutch for Tolkien Shop. There is an English version of the page. but is now a business. Aims to sell everything Tolkien: books, original art, calendars, music, games and more.

Humour

• The Mouth of Sauron
  Lots of stuff submitted by different people. Why not stop taking Tolkien seriously and laugh about LotR being directed by George Lucas instead of wondering whether Glorfindel was reincarnated.
• Tolkien Sarcasm Page
  I find it hilariously funny especially the Crackpot Theories Page.

Music/games

• The Tolkien Music List
  There must be all the music that ever had a Tolkien reference in on this site.
• Other Hands
  The International Journal of Middle-earth Gaming. It provides information on the hard copy quarterly magazine as well as some free information for all you who like MERP games.
