My Armies
Whew, where to begin? :) Well, I just recently finished my Ultramarine army, and have begun work on a Renegade Imperial Guard Army!
This is a lot easier than it sounds, but, you may want to get the codex from http://www.themaelstrom.co.uk/imperial_guard/traitor.htm if your thinking of starting one. I am also starting Orks.
I think I'd hafta say that my favourite army are my loyalist Mordian Iron Guard. I've won and lost so many battles with them I don't even remember my first battle (actually, come to think of it, I do, it was 40 guardsmen with lasguns against, like, 5-10 Plague Marines, it wasn't pretty, as my guardsmen's souls became food for Father Nurgle).

With that said, I will start out my army list for my Mordian Iron Guard. I have named my regiment the Mordian 54th.

Mordian 54th:

Since I haven't been able to find a Colonel model, I use an old Rogue Trader Cadian Sargeant (back when they were called Imperial Army). He's kinda retro, but it's nice to have a classic model :)

I have a Primaris Psyker, but he's not in my Mordian army anymore, since I converted him into a Chaos Magus for my Renegade Guard, so I can't really use him anymore. I also have the old Commisar Yarrick model, and yeah, I'd have to say I like the new one better. I got both old and new storm troopers, and I must say, the new ones are one helluva an improvement.
As for tanks, I have two Leman Russes with hull-mounted lascannons (anything else would be uncivilized) and side-sponson heavy bolters. I also have one Leman Russ Exterminator, one Basilisk with a heavy flamer, one Chimera, two of the old 'chicken-walker' sentinels and one of the new sentinels (with a multi-laser AND assault cannon, thanks to the new vehicle construction rules). I have 4 autocannons, 4 lascannons, 3 heavy bolters, a single Missile launcher and a whole lotta loaders with lasguns. Other than that, the 'grunts' of my army are comprised of standard, rank-and-file Mordian Iron Guardsmen with lasguns. I also have an old Armorcast Baneblade.

My second favourite army would have to be, debatably, my Ultramarines. Why Ultramarines, and not Blood Angels or Dark Angels or Space Wolves etc.? Ever since I played the game Chaos Gate (http://www.chaosgate.com), I was hooked on Ultramarines. Besides, for most of the time I've been playing 40k (about 2-3 years, near the very end of 2nd edition), I have been opposed to anything wearing power armour, since it is too cheesy. My view has changed somewhat, however, since now that I'm older and a more experienced player, I know much better tactics for dealing with power armoured troops. Ordinary codex Space Marines and Chaos Space Marines are fine by me, it's stupid things like Deathwin-, err, I'll save that for my rants section :)

Ultramarines:

I have Lord Marneus Calgar (whom I rarely use since most people, like myself, dislike using special characters in ordinary games), a Librarian with force weapon, various other wargear including a jump-pack, a Chaplain in terminator armour, 3 squads of Tactical space marines (including a plasma gun conversion I made myself by chopping up an Imperial bolt pistol and adding a Khorne Berzerker plasma pistol to it), two squads of Terminators (mmm mmm, gotta love that new 5+ invulnerable save) including a Cyclone Missile Launcher, Assault Cannon and Chainfist, an assault squad without jump-packs (the reason for this is that I made the squad entirely out of spare bits from my bitz box and I had no extra jump-packs), including my favourite model of all time, the Veteran Sargeant for my assault squad.

There's a story behind this. It started one day when I was playing against some fella's Khorne Chaos army. My assault squad's Veteran Sargeant, has the legs of a running Khorne Berzerker, an Imperial torso and helmet, and holds a double-handed power axe I converted by adding two power axes together. I had to chop up his left arm a bit so he could hold the axe properly, but it was worth it. Anyway, he and his squad spent most of the game engaged in raging combat against Berzerkers. He had bionics, and managed to get killed once, but stood back up when I rolled a 6 for the bionics roll. He got right back up, and with his assistance, the first Berzerker squad that assailed me was annihilated. Up into the next Berzerker squad, the exact same thing happened. He got killed, rolled a 6, got back up, killed the enemy squad. But this time, my assault squad was destroyed, as was the enemy's. Now, the Aspiring Champion and my Veteran Sargeant were engaged in a one-on-one. The adrenaline was high, and during the simultanious combat (Initivate 4 vs. Initiative 4) my Sargeant did not wound the Champion, and was killed! But, as if the Emperor himself was shielding him, he got up from the dead a 3rd time, when I rolled another 6! He brutally slaughtered the Champion, and did not die himself. He was all alone by now, since the assault squad was killed. He passed his 'Last Man Standing' Leadership test. By this time, the only opposition left on the table was a large squad of Chaos Space Marines with a heavy bolter. My Veteran Sargeant, co-ordinated with the efforts of a nearby Tactical squad, charged the squad from both the front and flank, utterly annihilating it. That is why this is my favourite model :)
Here is the Assault Squad's Veteran Sargeant, in all his glory!

Oh yeah, and I have some scouts with sniper rifles, but they suck :D I also got some old lead OOP marines, including a beakie Sargeant with power fist and beakie Devestator with Heavy Bolter. They don't make Space Marines like they used to :)

Chaos:

Hmmm, Chaos. The modelling oppertunities are endless. If someone were to ask me, 'What Chaos army do you play?' I would have to say Night Lords, since all my non-cult traitor marines are Night Lords. But I have tons of other stuff. I love daemons, so I have 18 Bloodletters. Bloody. If I'm really feeling in a Khornate mood, I also have about 30 of the old, 2nd edition non-poseable Khorne Berzerkers I got cheaply in a clear-out sale. All painted. All of my armies are painted, I hate playing with unpainted armies, but, that in itself is for my rants section :)
I have Nurgle as well. Much like my story with Khorne Berzerkers, I have lots of the old 2nd edition non-poseable Plague Marines I got cheap, as well as some OOP figures like the Plague Marine champions and special weapon marines. And now that Tzeench Thousand Son marines have been re-released, I now have a 10-man squad of them!

Renegade (Nurgle) Imperial Guard:

My most recent army is my Nurgle Guard. I played my first game with them on Nov. 25, 2000, and won, crushing my opponent, a pure Khorne army, horribly. For more details, check out the Renegade Guard section of this website. My favourite model in the army is not actual a model, but a tank. I had an old partially constructed Basilisk lying around that I had originally bought for my Mordian Guard. I just took it, built it up and added some nifty skull racks and stuff from the Chaos Vehicle sprue, and painted it. It's in traditional Imperial Guard tank colours (Goblin green with that blue and white stripe at the front sides), except that I painted the Earthshaker cannon to look really rusted, since traitorous Guard armies wouldn't have access to fresh Imperial spare parts. It was easy, all I did was paint it Boltgun metal than give it a medium coat of Brown Ink, perfect, easy rust. My army commander, a converted Cadian lieutenant (his stomach is cut up to give the appearance of pustules and he has a tentacle arm from a Warhammer Chaos Spawn), has a retinue of the old 2nd ed OOP stormtroopers. I also have a small squad of traitor guardsmen with an autocannon team. Now that Cadians have been re-released, I can continue building my army! I just got a missile team, a mortar team, and a full new infantry squad! My renegade Nurgle Guard have their own history, check out the Renegade Guard section to read it.

Eldar:

After a long time of not playing Eldar, I have finally begun reconstruction of my Eldar army. Pics of my newly painted Dark Reapers and Maugan Ra are now in the Gallery. I'm gonna whip a few particular Mon-Keigh power armour armies to a pulp with them :)

Black Templars:

Not the Black Templars of Codex Armageddon. This was my first 3rd edition army, using the standard Space Marine codex. Most of my Black Templars are either sitting in my basement collecting dust, or have been repainted into Ultramarine colours for my Ultramarines. I suppose I could field them disregarding the Codex Armageddon, but, ehhhh.......... it didn't bring me an exceptional amount of victories. But like most people, it was a valuable learning experience as a beginner to 40k (3rd edition), since Space Marines are so tactically flexible and forgiving to beginners.

Orks:

Da Orkz! This army consists of the classic enemy of the Imperium, the Orks. Yup, back in the earliest days of Warhammer 40k games (like Space Marine), these (the old Ork Raiders boxed set) green monstrosities were one of the few things the Space Marines could battle. Now, da boyz is ready to rip all da pink oomies and da panzee eldarz apart!
WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGH!
Yeah, so now I got that out of my system (hehe), here's a brief history of my Orks. Very brief. The first game I ever played with them was against Tyranids, and because of his three Biovores, and their positioning out of my LOS, over 30 of my boyz (mostly Slugga boyz) were lost only from biovores. If it wasn't for these little ugly mammas, I woulda won. By the time the 30 some boyz had been killed. The Tyranid player decided to take mercy on me, and stopped firing the biovores. So, my Warboss, stuck in Assault with termagants, was slowly killing them one by one, while my warbuggy (it's twin-linked rokkit launchas were destroyed) crossed the lake and tried tank-shocking some termagants. He moved out of the way, sigh. It was smashed by Zoanthropes.
While this was happening, a Carnifex walked up to my Warboss and promptly laughed at his mega armour and ripped him in two. The last thing I had on the board, a squad of 8 surviving slugga boyz w/ a Nob with a Shootier and More Dakka slugga and a slugga boy with a Big Shoota, decided to avenge my warboss. As the Carnifex rumbled down the bridge, my boyz opened fire, causing two wounds. It shambled closer, stepping off the bridge, and it took another wound. It still kept coming, but was out of Assault range, and finally, all the combined fire turned the Carnifex into ribbons. However I was killed by afar from the Warp Blasts and Venom Cannons, but it was still a good game :)

Dark Eldar

Yeah, that's right! I started Dark Eldar! Why would I pick such a weakling, wussie army? It's simple! Look at them, they look cool! Not only that, but they're the fastest army in the game. Sure, their vehicles can be shot down by bolters, and maybe most of them can be instant killed by multi-lasers, but what other army has 2+ invulnerable saves? And what army's basic troops have Initiative 5? Anyway, more pics are in the Gallery. Go there. :)

Tzeentch Undead

You read it right (well, unless you're illiterate, in which case you couldn't read this either). This is not an average Tzeentch army; for one, I have, and plan to have no Thousand Sons marines, unless they re-release them in plastics, which I have an odd suspicion they will. I also don't have any Horrors of Tzeentch either, but that's simply because I'm not particularly fond of the models. And the fact that they're really bad in game terms doesn't help either :) But an important note to anyone who wants to follow in my footsteps; this was not an army designed to win games. Since it is mostly Chaos Space Marines, it does not have the greatest chance of winning, since Chaos' greatest strength lies within the things that seperate it from their Imperial counterparts, like Daemons. I have some Daemons, but not Horrors (pink or blue).

The core of my army are Imperial Space Marines. That's right. Dark Angels, Blood Angels... with one exception. They're dead. The story behind this is one day, yours truly was skimming through Codex Imperialis (from way back in 2nd edition), and came across this picture:

After repeatedly starring at the picture, I had an idea. Yep, an idea! Since Tzeentch is the master of magic, deception, the dark arts, etc. I thought it might be interesting to have an actual army of 'puppets'. The crouching in the shadow part helps as well. The marines in my army are built by using Imperial Space Marine plastics, but I have replaced all of the heads and some of the arms with undead stuff from the Zombie regiment boxed set. Each squad belongs to a different chapter. One of my squads is a Puppet Blood Angel squad, for instance. They were once fully loyal Imperial Space Marines, however, after they died, a Sorcerer Lord of Tzeentch re-animated them to serve Tzeentch, in effect making undead Chaos Space Marines. They still retain all the symbols of the Imperium, but their alligences have changed. Another one of my squads is a Puppet Dark Angel squad. My Chaos Sorcerer Lord would be Karazantor the Vile, since he's basically the Necromancer hiding in the shadows while he has his undead marines fight for him. I may yet even make a special Codex for these undead marines.

As I said before, this is not an army to win games. It has been designed for looks and theme rather than emphasis on cheese. My army's only truly deadly warriors are my Flamers of Tzeentch. Not the spell, the Daemonic Beasts. They're undoubtably the best value for the points the Chaos armylist has to offer. They're a lot like Space Marines, except they have a 5+ invulnerable save, they can charge 12", they have Initiative 5, they're Fearless and they each have a psychic weapon similar to a stormbolter! All of this for the cost of 15 points. I'd rather have a Flamer than an ordinary Marine, be it Loyalist or Traitor. I can't help but show off my Flamers, painted by myself with my m4d sk1llz :)

Their bases aren't finished though :) If anyone wants to do this effect on your Flamers as well, just drybrush some Skull White on. It's that easy.
As for the actual undead marines themselves, I haven't finished painting them yet. I'll post pics when I finish. In the meantime, enjoy a pic of the only other useful thing in my army, my Obliterators :)

Here they are, finally! The undead marines themselves!
I currently only have one squad painted, my Former Dark Angels. Here they are.

This is the best conversion in the squad. Half of his head is blown off. The wet-look of the blood is achieved by using varnish.

My heavy/special weapon marines.

It was hard to scan this squad. If I had scanned them to all face the right direction, they would have broken.

A rear view of one of the marines.

Some more marines. The one on the far left didn't come out so good, since it was hard to scan it.

I also have a former Blood Angel squad. Pics will be up when they are painted. In the meantime, here's my Chaos Lord who leads the army, Karazantor the Vile himself!
