My 40k Rants
Well, there are a lot of them. I won't lie, over the past few years, I have become somewhat dissastified with Games Workshop. Although I started playing long after the 'Good Old Days' of Rogue Trader had passed, I have heard many testimonies about price climbing. And I believe it to be true. To start, a tiny 28mm miniature costs, like, $9 Canadian. And there are some armies that are just purely created to make money. The Space Wolves in 3rd edition are a prime example of this. I've never seen such a cheesy army! I consider myself a fairly experienced gamer, since I have 3+ years experience, and I have never won a game against Space Wolves, and NO, I don't suck. Blood Angels? They piss me off too, with their cheesy Death Company. Anyway, I'll rant more when more stuff pisses me off.
UPDATE: December 2nd, 2000: I played my first game with my Baneblade today! It was a massive 5000 point game against three Eldar titans supported by an assortment of Falcons, jetbikes, Wave Serpents, numerous Banshees and Guardians and a Scorpion Superheavy! The Baneblade was toasted, but it was a draw, since our team (my loyalist Guard with two other space marine players) laid waste to some of the Falcons, Serpents, and destroyed one structure point of the biggest Titan (a Revenant or Phantom, not sure, it had 6 structure points). I myself managed to kill a small titan myself, the 3rd titan, which was called the Shadowkiller or something, it was specifically designed for close combat. And I am proud to say it was my Baneblade which took down the titan.

Here's an interesting rant. The Evolution of Heavy Bolters:
*1* *2* *3*
1
In the beginning, there was Rogue Trader (hehe). Pictured above *1* is the first generation Heavy Bolter, back when Space Marines were all beakies. Although it's hard to see in the picture, the 1st Generation Heavy Bolter (herein referred to as HB) Marine has the (in?)famous shoulder studs on one of his shoulderpads. Although 'beakies' are my favourite type of power armour, the HB itself looks... somewhat cruddy. I would be embarrased to put it in a Devestator squad, with all the other huge guns that are almost as big as the Marines carrying them (Plasma Cannon specifically).
2
This is the 2nd Generation HB Marine. Back in the days of 2nd edition (I miss save modifiers), pretty much everyone carried their heavy weapons 'slung over the shoulder', as this marine is doing. Its most definitly bigger than the 1st Generation, but looks rather retro. If the marine were carrying it in a different manner, it might look better. Although, even so, it looks pretty mean.
3
This is the current edition's HB Marine. Although a tiny bit smaller than the 2nd generation HB, it still looks like it can rip any alien scum/heretic a second corn chute. One of it's main strengths is the long ammo belt extending from the gun to the Marine's backpack. This simulates the feel of a (rightfully so) ammo guzzling weapon.
The Verdict?
Drum roll please :) And the winner is.... 3rd Generation! Yeah, that's right, GW actually did something good. It's not puny like the 1st Generation or downright ugly like the 2nd generation.
