DIY
DIY. It stands for Do-It-Yourself. This section was created to primarily help budding modellers like myself exchange ideas and work. DIY models can be very rewarding, since no one else will have one like yours. Although I do not have the skills to make scratchbuilt MODELS yet, as few do, I plan to do some DIY modifications for vehicles. If anyone would like to post some of their ideas, email me and it will be posted in this section. NOTE: I reserve the right to censor any inappropriate material submitted.
Well, since this is my site, I'll get the ball rolling. Here is my first project. A picture is worth a thousand words, so here goes :)
Leman Russ Vanquisher
This vehicle was the first Leman Russ I ever made. It is buttoned (tank-talk for the hatch being down), the paint is too thick in some areas, some pieces have fallen off. So I took some Green Stuff (incredibly useful stuff, it really does have 1001 uses) and sealed the side hatches. Then, after my huge battle against the three Eldar titans (check the My 40k Rants section for details), I decided that I needed some serious firepower. A Vanquisher suited this need, and so, without further ado, the stats of the Vanquisher Cannon, straight from the blessed Codex Imperial Guard:
-
Vanquisher Battle Cannon: This cannon can fire special Anti-Tank (AT) shells that can smash through the thickest armour. Declare that you will fire an AT shell before you fire the cannon. AT shells have a range of 72" and a Strength of 8. Don't use the Ordnance blast template. Instead, roll to hit using the crews' BS of 3. If a hit is scored roll two D6 for Armour Penetration and add the scores together.
-
Although it only has a 50% chance of hitting (there's Guardsmen accuracy for you), you can 'cheese' it up with the new advanced targetting system covered in the Vehicle Construction White Dwarf, making it BS 4. I myself probably won't do this, but since you can only take 0-1, some may feel this to be necissary. The Vanquisher shell hits like any normal weapon such as a boltgun, but if your up against massed ranks, you can also fire standard battle cannon shells. The Vanquisher shell itself is Strength 8, and you can roll 2D6 for armour penetration. And my favourite part about that is that you can ADD IT TOGETHER! So, if you rolled two sixes, you could have a Strength 20 hit! Now THAT'S a penetrating hit :) And even if you have the misfortune to roll snake eyes, you'll still glance Armour 10 vehicles!
So, here's how I made it. I cut off the end of the barrel, took a hunk of Green Stuff, rolled it until it relativly resembled a Vanquisher cannon, and then attached the cut-off end of the Battlecannon to the end of the tube. Presto, Leman Russ gone Vanquisher!

Big Shootas made easy
Here are some quick, easy big shootas. Ever found that ordinary shootas 'arun't shooty enuff'? Well, we can fix that. Here are 4 easy steps to make a big shoota.
Step 1- Take two of thse shootas. They should be at the top and bottom of the shootas part of the sprue. After removing them from the sprue, remove the trigger and handle, so that the models can actually hold the gun.
Step 2- Clip the shoota with the case-clip. You can now either discard the leftover shoota piece or put it in your bitz box, you won't need it for this conversion.
Step 3- Clip off the muzzle of the remaining shoota.
Step 4- Glue the barrel to the shoota, as show above. Presto, a big shoota! If you have any gaps in between the barrel and the shoota, you can either fill the gaps with Green Stuff or you can paint heavily into the gaps. You can also add on bullet strips to the other side, to represent the massive ammo requirements of 'Dakka Dakka'ing :) Here is the big shoota on an actual model:
Yeah yeah, I know, the paint job may not be so great, but it's a good conversion :)
Priss Asagiri
For those of you who don't know, this is Priss Asagiri in her hardsuit, in a pose true to her personality. This is from the anime Bubblegum Crisis, one of my favourite animes out there. I'm actually making all four girls, I'll post pics of all of them when I'm done. If you look (cough)carefully(cough), you'll notice that the helmet is not an actual GW bit. I made it (and the blochy part of the arm, I had to in order to make the pose work) from Green Stuff. As I have mentioned before, Green Stuff is Great Stuff (no I don't work for GW). It took me about two hours to convert this miniature, and it was worth it. Also, if anyone knows where I can find some Bubblegum Crisis hentai, email me please! :)
Wave Serpent

Yup. It's a Wave Serpent! I ain't gonna attempt to write a walkthrough, since there's already one in White Dwarf 238. In fact, this is the way I constructed mine. With some minor changes to the guide, I was able to make a reasonable looking Wave Serpent. One of the major problems was I don't have plastic card, so I had to do without the enlarged storage compartment at the back. I substituted the plastic card for the shield generators for cardboard from a Khorne Berzerker battle squad box. The little tube thingie with the pewter bit at the end is made from some weird little Eldar bit I had lying around in my bitz box, and a drinking straw. And true to the very roots of making vehicles for Warhammer 40k (remember that old deoderant tank?), I used a cut-off plastic spoon for the turrets. Sad thing is though, it's not mine :) That's right, it's not mine. I was payed to convert it for a friend. Yeah, I play my own craftworld (Craftworld Marduk; I'll have a section on it later), but the friend I'm converting it for plays Ulthwe, hence the skulls and the sword beside the pilot's cockpit. As soon as I finish painting this baby, I'll post pics of it. And yeah, I know that it's armaments are incorrect for the Codex, my friend is using the VDR for it, since we didn't have enough weapons bitz to make it 'Codexically Correct'.
