Festival
Annual Temple Festival occurs on Second Tuesday of March. In general it lasts for two weeks with various religious, cultural and traditional programs. The hoisting of the temple flag usually marks the beginning of the celebrations. The real emphasis, however, during the festival is on rituals and purificatory rites to increase the Chaitanya or power of the deity. In fact, Utsavam consist of two classes of functions-the Akathepaditharam or the ritual side and Purathepaditharam or the ceremonial side for amusement, which consists of elephant procession, music, dance, fireworks etc.

Main attraction is the caparisoned elephants , glittering umbrellas, frenzied playing of drums and cymbals and rounded off with a fireworks extravaganza. The best elephants from Kollam and surrounding distrincs  are brought to the temple festivall.  There is an umbrella showing competition atop the elephants evoking considerable enthusiasm from thousands of spectators.
