Tenchi in Tokyo
Episodes Reviewed: 1-26, Toonami Dubbed
Overall Grade:C
This piece of crap is undeserving of an A!
Storyline: 4
Knockoff of Tenchi, but with wierder story-lines, and exaggerated characters, and a Sailor Moon-esque formula per episode.
Genre: Comedy/Action
Think a wussier Tenchi.
Ch. Development: 4
Though they may be the same characters, rule 1 is that you still have to reintroduce them if it isn't the same story or timeline or universe.
Sexuality: 3
No baths and no Ryoko. The most we see is Sakuya's profile, near the end, and that isn't something anyone wanted to see.
Romance: 5
Hey, romance..... is romance.
Drama: 5
A few tear-jerking eps... if you're weak like that. You've got to be super weak to cry here, though.
Action: 6
Gawd, do I have to repeat myself again?
Comedy: 8
... apparently yes I do!
Dub
Dub Voices: 7
Just slightly worse than the old cast.
Dub Music:
Nonexistent!
Dub Lines:
Just strange.
Tenchi in Tokyo, also known as "The New Tenchi Muyo!, was an incredible disaster. These people felt they needed yet another tenchi-verse in existence and wasted money that coould have been put into better use.... like a third OAV. The animation quality is poor, but it gets slightly better by the end. Everything is out of whack, and the characters aren't what they should be. It's as if some fanart artists bought the rights to draw a Tenchi anime, drew it, and made up some wussy storyline to it with the characters' personalities greatly exaggerated. Examples: Mihoshi falling down pretty much all the time, acting dumb all the time, Tenchi wanting to get away from all these ladies, Ayeka being a total bitch, Kiyone complaining all the time, and I could go on and on and on. Watch the Toonami version, and the uncut version isn't too far off. Believe me, you don't want to spend $90 or more just to buy the uncut version of a piece of crap.
Tenchi has to go to Tokyo for some sort of training, though we don't see any of this, and instead see him going to school and enjoying his strange relationship with Sakuya. Here, Tenchi acts gayer than ever and is seemingly incredibly stupid and is "whipped" quite easily. Sakuya cries whenever Tenchi seems like he's going away from her and yes, she thinks Tenchi will hate her simply because he has a good time with his "family" at home. Sakuya is actually a "shadow" of Yugi, who was locked away be the Queen of Jurai some 500 years ago. Yugi raises hell on earth and starts... (shudder) creating demons to seperate Tenchi from the girls and therefore seperating the six crystal parts that could destroy her, which is part of (SHUDDER)... a monster-of-the-day formula! Oh the humanity of it all!
That's my story and I'm sticking to it!
