Tenchi the Movie 2: Midsummer's Eve
Episodes Reviewed: N/A, dubbed, subbed
Overall Grade:A-
Looks like these guys are obsessed with time travel now! Looks like someone at Pioneer started up a Chrono Trigger game! Either that, or the higher execs wrote the plot after one of TNT's Back to the Future marathons where they show you all three of the movies. Hmm... oh, there was time travel in Tenchi Muyo! in Love, and that is why I say they are obsessed.
Storyline:6
Girl (seemingly) comes from the future, claiming to be Tenchi's daughter, but is she?
Genre: Action/Comedy
The same Tenchi-style stuff.
Ch. Development:N/A
We take a brief glimpse of Yosho's past.
Sexuality:4
Well, Mayuka wanted to take a bath with her father in one scene. It triggers a funny scene.
Romance: 4
Very little, but we see some of the serious side of Ryoko again.
Drama: 5
As usual, nothin' 'till the last part of the film.
Action: 6
Full of it. At least in the last part, that is.
Comedy: 6
Full of it. At least in the entire film, that is.
Dub
Dub Voices: 8
Too reminiscent of Tenchi in Tokyo.
Dub Music: 10
Nonexistent
Dub Lines: 10
Almost Exact
This movie is actually called Tenchi the Movie 2: Manatsu no Eve, which, translated, is Midsummer's Eve, or Summer of Darkness by some other webpage I went to, though I translate it to Midsummer's Eve, but Pioneer released it as Daughter of Darkness. (that Tom Jones song?) Oh well.
Tenchi the Movie 2 has more in common with.... itself! Yep, this thing is an entirely different Tenchiverse! There is a Lighthawk Sword (?), and the hot springs from Tenchi OAV is there, but Kiyone is in the movie, and she has the voice of Tenchi In Tokyo Kiyone, but then again, she lives in the Masaki household instead of her own apartment, so it could be that Tenchi the Movie 2 is a continuation of the OAV, but there is no solid proof.
A monster from the past of Katsuhito, Tenchi's grandfather, comes to take revenge by starting something in the Masaki household. A girl claiming to be Tenchi's daughter arrives and there is (obviously) some confusion as to who the mother could be. The possibility that she is lying disappears when Washu concludes that Mayuka, the girl, has Tenchi's DNA! Strange stuff starts to happen, though, as Mayuka starts trying to kidnap Tenchi and, uh, makes advances toward him. Talk about a daughter's love for her father! Well, will the gang find out who is responsible for all this? Will they do something about it? Can Ryo-Ohki transform into a spaceship? Find out, by buying this DVD or at least renting it!
That's my story and I'm sticking to it!
