Battle Arena Toshinden

Episodes Reviewed: OVA 1-2, dubbed

Oh, no... I forgot the names!!  This has never happened, except for Tekken!  I guess it just goes to show you how forgettable these failed video game movies are... but at least Battle Arena Toshinden is a two-part series, and has much more character development.

Overall Grade: C
A very forgettable series that deserves an average score.  At least the story was a bit intriguing and not trying to be like a video game.

Storyline: 4
It's a bit forgettable, I tell ya!  But, I do seem to remember that a scientist called.. Neptune?  copies the abilities of the most powerful warriors all over the world and implements them in the ugliest of them.  (Hero) is on a quest to gather the warriors who can still fight and find a way to attack this scientist to prevent her evil plan, but can they possibly defeat her fighter when he knows every technique the warriors can use?

Type: Action
Action.

Ch. Development: 7
Surprisingly, I learned alot about the characters in this two-part, such as how so-and-so is an arrogant bastard, and so-and-so was once controlled by a mind-control agent of some sort.  Well, this is a surprise, and a pleasant one, so it got some extra points.

Sexuality: 4
One scene (possibly even desperate) that had (insert girl's name) attack (hero) while she was still naked.  Of course, just a bit later, she is fully clothed without at least a transformation sequence.

Romance: 4
The two mentioned above in "sexuality" sure have a few moments.

Drama: 4
The kind that deals with the death or at least injury of your best friend, but also dealing with family stuff and other shit.

Action: 7
Uh, actionous.  I guess that there's some blood and, uh.. lot's of fighting.

Comedy: 1
I think I laughed, but I can't remember.

Dub

Dub Voices: 8
They worked for me.

Dub Lines: 8
I'm not one to judge; I never saw the japanese version, and I don't plan to.

Dub Music: Nonexistent (I think)

Well, this sure sucked.  Sure, it's better than most other fighting-game anime, but it still sucks when compared to other anime.  Of course, if I compared it to anything, I betray my unbias rule, so let's move along.

Battle Arena Toshinden is a two-part series that tells the story of a man who must stop the plans of an evil woman who plans to do something that includes copying the fighting ability of every one of the tournament participants in order to do whatever it was she wanted.  This probably is the destruction or brainwashing of the most powerful warrior, (insert his name here).  To do so, she must do some sneaky tricks such as controlling minds and kidnapping his daughter.  Okay, I've ranted for quite some time, and I have nothing left to say.

That's My Story and I'm Sticking to it!
