Ghost in the Shell
Episodes Reviewed: N/A, dubbed
Overall Grade: C+
Please don't hurt me! Really, it had plenty of action, and a lot was going on, but it bored me, not because I'm an idiot, but because it wasn't interesting enough to keep me interested. Of course, it wasn't a total failure; I was interested during some chase sequences and was interested when they were solving some mysteries of sorts.
Storyline: 9
Mostly-cyborg cops with above average strength and thinking ability (you can tell I don't have much of that) must solve the mystery of a hacker trying to get into their database or something. Ya see, it gets a 9 instead of a 10 since I couldn't remember it. It gets high marks if it's memorable, but it wasn't.
Type: Action
I think there were gallons, but it's safer to say there were pints.
Ch. Development: N/A
Sexuality: 7
The main woman (yep, couldn't remember name) has to strip her clothes in order for her to turn invisible. Which she does quite often, I might add.
Romance: 5
Very subtle. Sorry about the rise in the amount of smarter words, but "subtle" is one word that just stuck in my mind.
Drama: 8
There were some great dramatic scenes and a couple cool chase scenes.
Action: 8
Like I said, there were at least pints. Also a dismembered body, but to be fair, that body was mostly machine.
"They became more machine than man (or woman)"
Comedy: 0
Despite the lack of comedy, I enjoyed it for the first half of the movie.
Dub
Dub Voices: 6
Average
Dub Music: N/A
Censorship: Anybody's Guess
There will be, if Sci-Fi shows it. So far it's the most likely choice.
Ghost in the Shell got great reviews from several websites. Guess what. Not everyone likes this, and I am one such person. Sure, there's great action, cool sequences, and another humanity theme, but the overall feel of the movie was dark. Yes, it felt dark. No, not scary; nothing can scare me story-wise (though insects that hurt really scare me; it's some sort of phobia). It just didn't have any fun or light-heartedness anywhere. The only time I laughed was when I saw the scene where they guy was given an alternate identity and couldn't remember his real life, and that was because I saw a similar episode a week ago on "The Lone Gunmen." But, when you have to review and criticize anime, you have to deal with that and give an unbiased report. The story still didn't spark my interest enough, and the characters weren't memorable. No quirks or anything. That was another reason why I gave it a low grade. Honestly, I tried to give it a chance, but in the end, it's an anime that I could easily forget. On the other hand, it's not exactly a bad anime. After all, C is just an average grade.
That's my Story and I'm Sticking to it!
