Chrono Trigger
"....."
My Game Reviews start off with the second best RPG I ever played, Chrono Trigger. Perhaps the greatest RPG of all time. But, I still prefer Lunar 2.
Versions: SNES, Chronicles (PSOne)
Overall Grade: A+
The second-best game I ever played.
Gameplay: 10
I think it's the first RPG to ever show you where the enemies are before you get to the battle.
Type: RPG
Storyline: 6
Not the best I ever came across. Pay attention to this following sentence, as it is going to be used in a different way for nearly every Squaresoft game I review. *Ahem*: What starts as an adventure across time turns into battle to save the universe!
Extras: 10
The New Game + feature in the SNES was defiitely the clincher.
The Extra Features in Chronicles makes the move from SNES to PS much more manageable.
Estimated Hours of total Playtime: 60+
After beating it the first time (Estimated about 30-35 hours), you'll definitely want to get the best out of the game by using the New Game+ feature.
Music: 10
Nobuo Uematsu is the MAN!
Replay Factor: 10
You will definitely want to play it again and again. This factor is taken down a bit when you play Chronicles, though.
Chrono Trigger, perhaps the greatest RPG ever to come from Squaresoft, is definitely one of the best ever of all time. Definitely one to own, you musn't pass up Chrono Trigger.
The story itself is great; not the best, and not very involved, but passable. However, the whole "time travel" aspect and the character design just fits perfectly, and it's very memorable. I think I can easily remember every video game I ever played, which is a good thing. Not like my anime reviews. The game starts off simple and normal enough; a mainly-mute boy named Crono has some fun at the fair. While there, he bumps into a cute girl and agrees to show her around. But then she suddenly disappears into a different era after trying out a new teleporting machine!! Like any hero, Crono decides to risk his life to save her, and thus the tale begins.
It's really a lot of fun to go from time to time and see how things happen while traveling around the world in different times to go through the game's many sidequests. There are even some times when using time travel can actually benefit you outside of story-wise. And, the NewGame+ feature which allows you to start a new game while keeping your ending levels, items, and equipment should give it plenty of replay. It's really interesting to see how much insight these guys had when making a game about time-travel. They implemented great ideas like an actual history for the world, a world that changes its appearance (you'll notice that the continents change shape after several thousand years), and various little things that add to how perfect this game is. Worth a good look at.
Until next time, you'll be staring at a "Loading...." screen.
