No Need for Tenchi!
Mangas Reviewed: Graphic Novels 1-12
Overall Grade: PTS+
Having realized that I have given the PTS grade to Ranma 1/2, I decided to make the PTS+ grade to No Need for Tenchi! because it proved to be as funny and entertaining as Ranma 1/2, and not handicapped by an anime version. That's right, the manga is an add-on to the Tenchi OVA series and not an alternative. So, to be fair, I have decided to create PTS+ grade. This is the only time you will ever see it.
Type: Comedy/Action
Yeah.
Storyline: 10
There being at least two main storylines, I can't really say.
Ch. Development: 5
Not much really, but there is development for the new characters introduced.
Sexuality: 5
Well now, there is some mature themes (I guess I have to say that, just to be sure) and small amounts of nudity. Nothing detailed.
Romance: 5
Not as much as the series.
Drama: 7
Some really good dramatic poitns and kickassedness.
Action: 6
All the great action and mayhem you might've liked from the anime series.
Comedy: 10
Laughs at almost every corner. More like every side, but not quite every corner.
Like I said, this is an add-on, not an alternative. However, this means you would want to watch the anime before reading the manga. Either way, it's still fun. The stories here happen during a sort of calming time, so the whole gang isn't really pushing toward anything when they aren't involved with any of the main stories.
About those stories... The first big story features Minagi, a being that serves Yakage, a master swordsman, and looks a lot like Ryoko. After a fight with Ryoko, Minagi loses her memory and lives with everyone until Yakage comes down there himself! There are also plenty of entertaining shorter stories like Sasami saving a wolf, Tenchi's old childhood girlfriend visiting out of nowhere, Washu's intergalactic phone, and more. Sure I could name them all, but I would have to read all of the graphic novels to give you that info.
So what are you waiting for? If you can't find them, try your library. If that won't work, then search the 'net. Might I suggest www.animenation.com ?
Well, enough of that.
Call it a comic one more time and we know what's for dinner!
