GoShogun: The Time Etranger
Episodes Reviewed: N/A
Overall Grade: B+
It was pretty old, and apparently needed knowledge of some sort of series or something to completely understand, but it was pretty easy to follow. I liked it.
Storyline: 7.6
I seriously wish I did this review much much earlier. At least then I remembered some of the names. Still, I can remember the main character being the only woman member of the team of pilots who piloted the GoShogun long long ago. She was in a crash accident and the rest of the pilots gather around her and reminisce about a past venture into a strange village of no escape. First her, then the other are given prophecies of their deaths and are told that the only way to escape the village is by that death. None shall escape the prophecy because it is their written destiny. The team soon realizes that it is true when they attempt to leave via the main gates and are transported back to the entrance. How do they escape certain death in their most extreme adventure ever? At least we know they live, seing as how this is a flashback and all.
Type: Action
Ch. Development: 0
None of the characters develop at all. Well, outside the overused "hey, don't give up hope" thing.
Sexuality: 3
There is some brief nudity somewhere in this movie.
Romance: 5
Once again there is the subtle romance and there is the whole "two (or was it three) men wanting the same girl" thing.
Drama: 8
There is a bunch of drama and kickassedness. There are the strange prophecies and goings-on, plus the scene when they finally escape and must fight the god of the villagers, et cetera, et cetera.
Action: 9
Bloodbaths. Literally. There is actually a tub full of blood. Then there are the too-numerous deaths of zombie-like villagers and an A-Team like scene in which the GoShogun team actually transforms a trolley into a tank. Or was that an actual A-Team episode? Hmm..
Comedy: 4
I remember this one scene in which this doctor actually pours two vials of sleeping pills down two attacking zombie-like villagers. That was funny. There's also that monster-like guy who is an accomplished fried chicken kingpin. Just think of that.
Dub
Dub Voices: 9.5
I liked 'em. Definitely good. A little cliche-ish, but good.
Dub Music: ???
Dub Lines: 9
See 'dub voices'.
I've said what I've had to say about the story, so this is how I feel about the story. The entire story is basically a flashback of a different adventure, and the whole thing where the girl is dying and everyone remembers about her could have been cleanly taken out with no confusion at all. That's another thing. At the end, there is some sort of message that goes something like "their adventure will continue throughout time forever" or something like that. I don't get it, and therefore, by the time I finally finished the movie, I was confused as to what exactly was going on. In fact, somewhere in the beginning, when the girl is speeding, the police who chase her say something about how young she seems for her age (somewhere around 60). Then I looked up the world etranger. I couldn't find it, therefore, I couldn't find the full meaning of the whole movie. Not that I care, but it woulda been nice. Something about time. Well anyway, the movie is nice for a rent, and you might be motivated to see the series if you can.
That's my Story and I'm Sticking to it!
