Ruin Explorers
Episodes Reviewed: 1-4
Overall Grade: A
It was a nice RPG-ish anime that always got me interested. Granted, it was only 4 episodes, but still...
Storyline: 8
Okay, so Ihrie, our heroine, travels around the continent with her magic-knowing cat-girl partner Fam to find the Ultimate Power. Ihrie wants to use it to cure her curse... then maybe take over the world. On their quest, they learn that others with power such as theirs (and possibly more powerful) seek the Ultimate Power. Soon the two have others joing on their quest because an even more powerful magician wants it for his evil plans. That sorceror's name is... something pretty long and starting with an 'R'.
Type: Action/Comedy
Ch. Development: 5
The characters learn and develop, yeah. In fact, by the end, Ihrie no longer has any evil intentions!!
Sexuality: 2
Brief, nonexistent nudity, and fanservice. Oh so much. Well, not much, really, but it just seems so.
Romance: 6
The opposite of subtle. It's obvious. Obvious meaning two girls drooling over the same guy but neither getting an upper hand. Too bad it was only 4 episodes, because that little subplot could have grown to something much greater.
Drama: 8
The same kind of drama you can find in a good RPG. Plenty of dramatic battling, item-finding, training, and more dramatic battling.
Action: 5
See 'drama.' There's nothing ultraviolent or anything. Not much blood, if any. Just magic-blasting and the piercing of robots.
Comedy: 7
Plenty of laughs, funny characters, funny situations. Interested in what Ihrie's curse is? Well, whenever she uses magic, she turns into a mouse. One of their enemies is afraid of mice. You can think of about 2 or 3 funny situations, and there are, but then it would get old, which it doesn't, because there are only about 2 or 3 funny situations existing.
Dub not seen.
Ruin Explorers looks and feels like an RPG, and in fact, the story is like that of an RPG, and the creation of this series involves some sort of RPG company of some sort. At least that's what I could guess from the closing credits. I've seen this on DVD, and it would be a worthwhile addition to any otaku's collection. It's full of light-hearted adventure and comedy, and has dramatic battles like that of an RPG. If you like RPGs, you'll like this, and vice versa. I know you'll appreciate it. Can you go wrong with this? Well, yes. Unfortunately, it's only 4 episodes long and can easily be criticized. In fact, I can already picture how the series could have been extended to a full season of 26.
That's my Story and I'm Sticking to it!
