Fushigi Yugi- The Mysterious Play
"Hey, do any of you have strange markings on your body that glow every once in a while? .... No, that's not what I meant!"

Episodes Reviewed: 8-16, dubbed

Overall Grade: A
It can be entertaining as a serious anime, but it always makes sure that some sillyness can enter if it ever gets too serious.  It some points it just gets insane, y'know?

Storyline: 10
When Miaka, a girl living in- wait for it... Japan, and her friend Yui find a mysterious book in a room in the library called "The Kingdom of the Four Gods" they get sucked into it and meet a man who saves them from (I forget). They then escape somehow.  But one day Miaka can't take the stress of studying and her mother chewing her out when she returns home.  She runs off to the library, has a read, and gets sucked in once again!!  To return, she must find the seven Suzaku warriors of the Kingdom of Konan so that the god Suzaku can be summoned and grant her any wish she wants.

Type: Action/Comedy/Drama/Comedy

Ch. Development: 10
The characteers always seem to be introduced correctly and develop at a normal pace.  Perfect job on the part of miss Watase.

Sexuality: 4
A few sexual themes here and there.  Maybe some nudity and fanservice too.

Romance: 10
In some episodes (especially12-??) it just sweats romance.  Basically, there's Tamahome, the love interest of Miaka, the love interest of Hotohori, the love interest of Noriko.  Well, you know that there are some comedy possibilities to be had here with this alone.

Drama: 6
Normal amounts of sadness, the normal drama, and the kickassedness, and I have yet to see some of the more dramatic scenes yet, I suppose.

Action: 6
Fighting, magic, you know the drill.

Comedy: 10
Like I said before, it can show up any time.  It's INSANE.  Okay.

Dub
Dub Voices: 8
Not perfect, but who really is?

Dub Music: Nonexistent
Just the way I like it.

Dub Lines: 10
It's utterly perfect.  The delivery is almost there, but not quite.  Still, the lines themselves are good enough.

Censorship: N/A
I might actually want to see this on Toonami, but until such a thing happens, no censorship.

Okay, I watched this series after I realized I could borrow none of the new graphic novels at the library and decided to spend my money on DVDs for the time being.  I have an overabundance of Hollywood Video Coupons which will be expired by the time this page is updated.  I found new pieces of crap and new TV shows that were worth super amounts of money.  Anyway, I was pleased with it overall, and the opening is among my favorites.  Also, I of course really love the whole "insanity out of nowhere and for no reason" thing.  It gives the anime life.  Maybe too much life.  Also, there's the amazing powers of the celestial warriors of Suzaku that seem really cool, and if you don't dig that, there's the romance and drama.  Something for everyone.

That's my Story and I'm Sticking to it!
