Fushigi Yugi- The Mysterious Play (Manga)
Mangas Reviewed: Graphic Novels 1, 2, and 3, a few Animerica Extra issues
Overall Grade: A
Very deserving. Very funny, very unpredictable. Kicks ass.
Type: Comedy/Action/Drama/Romance
Not in any sort of order.
Storyline: 10
Original. Miaka and Yui find a book in the library and read it. It sucks them into the story in the book somehow and they become characters in it. Although they both escape, Miaka returns after a stressful day and disappears. She spends weeks in the book and learns that she must gather the celestial warriors of Suzaku and summon Suzaku to grant her a wish to send her back to her world.
Ch. Development: 10
Normal paced development. We also get to know a little more about the Suzaku warriors throughout the story.
Sexuality: 6
I did see quite a bit of nudity.
Romance: 10
Of course, at some point we see the beginning of a romance and it gets kicked into overdive.
Drama: 6
Well, the usual is the death, loss, and kickassedness of the Suzaku warriors, no da.
Action: 6
Normal beating up and blood. Norm violence.
Comedy: 10
Beleive me when I say that the comedy can pop out of nowhere.
Okay, this is another great manga. It's perhaps the second greatest manga I have ever read. Perhaps the first greatest to a large percentage of all of you. It's a lot of fun and can cheer you up or excite you when you want it to. But I say that about every manga, don't I? Of course, there are some comedic effects that only manga can provide, so it's worth it to at least check it out even if you already saw the anime.
Call it a comic one more time and we know what's for dinner!
