Neon Genesis Evangelion DVD
Products Reviewed: DVD # 2 and 4
Avg. Price: $30
The NGE DVD Collections are average. Yes, average. Don't get me wrong, the anime is top-notch entertainment, but the DVD itself sucks ass!! Only the first two DVDs contain 4 episodes and the rest contain 3 episodes. That comes to a total of 8 DVDs, with $30 a DVD, that comes to about $240 for the entire set. THE OUTLAW STAR VHS SET IS ACTUALLY BETTER!!! (<--Huge exaggeration) The DVDs come with minimal extras. There are only Character Bios and no textless opening or closing. Those only exist in the menus. To top it off, the DVDs start with the promos!! I love the anime and all, but the DVDs were just plain discouraging. However, the discs come with four languages: English, Spanish, French, and Japanese. Unfortunately, this means that I have to press the subtitle button on my remote three times to get to Japanese on the fly, and there aren't any subtitles for those languages either. I truly expected more. Finally, the worst thing: the subtitles are HUGE!! Far too huge. If anything, subtitles should only be a minor nuisance that doesn't obstruct much from the images on screen. If the lettering is as HUGE as NGE's, then it gets to be incredibly annoying.
