Episodes Reviewed: 1-4, DVD

Overall Grade: B

It has the most amazing potential from what I've seen, and I can't wait to see the rest of the series!

Gets a couple points off for haveing unoriginal plot elements. Now... this is what I get for waiting too long to do a review. I once again... can you guess? Yep, forgot names. But, I do remember one name... Tate (tah-tay, not 'tayt') the name of the main character's master. So the main character is a guy, and on his way to a kendo tournament, bumps into a beautiful girl. He meets up with his kendo master Tate at the tournament and learns taht the girl he bumped into is Tate's fiancee. At the final match in the tournament, Tate appears to change his appearance, looking like an ancient warrior, and his strike pierces the opponent's breastplate, winning him the match. While the main guy swears he saw Tate change his appearance, it seems nobody else noticed. But he isn't crazy, and Tate challenges his apprentice to a swordfighting match with real swords this time! He nearly kills him, but he has a reason. During the battle the two transport to a different place, where Tate looks like the warrior he transformed into at the tournament, but [main character] has also changed his appearance! It is explained that the two are resurrected Incan warriors (Incan, eh? That's new!) and Tate tries to reawaken the spirit within... but what are his intentions?

So far I can only judge that it's action, but it does have other elements.

Ch. Development: 7

Well, there is general development in the first four episodes, but that could all slow down later on.

I saw a single nudity scene in episode four. I hope that's all they're planning on doing. You know, only the artistic-type stuff. Not that I'm too fond of those type of scenes, but I don't want to think of any symbolism possibilites; that just ruins things for me. I like things simple.

There are definitely those themes and I can sense deepening romance later on.

So the kid tries to deal with the whole deal with the reawakening spirits and such, as well as his master trying to kill him, and what he's going to do... blah blah blah. You get the deal, right?

Plenty of good-old-fashioned sword fighting and sword techniques! Yay! Sometimes I can get tired of non-stop ki blasts y'know!

Quite a bit in the beginning, but it gets pretty serious real quick.

I'd have to say below average because I got tired of it early on and switched to subtitled, but it could be getting better later on, though I wouldn't know.

Dub Lines: Respectable

Nazca has all kinds of stuff about reincarnation and warriors with a good prowess with the sword/spear, etc. But it is also original because rather than having a sacred power brought from the stars or sealed by ancient asians, the power comes from the Incans... South Americans! Cool. Original.

The characters are pretty easy to get into. You got some lovable characters here, you got some evil characters here, you got the token out-of-his-mind teenage boy there, you got the jealous girl there... but Tate is really the only memorable character I know of.

And so this review closes with a trivia fact. Episode 4 of Nazca has two scenes you may have seen before. On of them is a scene of a skateboarder from a skateboarding gang beatint up on a main character; the other is of an evil guy hitting the main character from behind, and seeing him fall off a bridge... in the rain... and smiling. If you guessed, the answer is in fact that you have seen those two scenes from the intro sequence of Malcom in the Middle, along with some claymation footage and apparently a bit of a fight between Bret Hart and DDP.
