Fist of the North Star
"True. In fact, you're already dead!"
Episodes Reviewed: N/A
Overall Grade: D
Forgive me, but the movie was incredibly violent and way too average story-wise. At least it was in some ways better than the life-action crap I saw on the Sci-Fi channel.
Storyline: 4
I just saw it, so you're in luck! The main character is Ken, and the first few actual scenes of the movie feature his girlfriend/fiancee Julia being taken away from him by his best friend, Shin. Shin easily defeats Ken in a martial arts duel and Ken is left for dead. But he ain't dead, and after a series of events that don't really matter much, eventually challenges Shin once again, for Julia. Oh, and there's apparently a lot of focus on the martial arts style known as the Fist of the North Star, which can make your head explode after being hit in a place not even close to your head. Oh, and did I mention that there are many insanely strong people, some being giants, and this takes place after a nuclear holocaust?
Type: Action
There are other elements, but anything this gory would have to be action.
Ch. Development: N/A
Sexuality: 3
Some crude remarks and a meaningless nudity scene. What were these people thinking?
Romance: 6
The main focus of the movie... other than exploding heads.
Drama: 7
Some great drama here. If you like sadness and cool powers. Of course, the cool powers come at a price: exploding heads and sliced-up human bodies.
Action: 10
Detail of gore: amazingly high. Quantity of blood: what's a proper word that explains something higher than gallons?
Comedy: 0
And I mean exactly that: Zero, Nada, Zip, Cero, Rei, NOTHING!
Dub
Dub Voices: 5
Can be pretty odd at times. And Ken's yelling makes him sound like a girl. A very strange, manly girl.
Dub Music: ???
I heard Japanese singing, but also English, so I'm confused.
Dub Lines: Respectable
Censorship:
Whenever a large amount of gore is coming, you can tell because the screen is fuzzed up a bit and is slightly discolored.
I can never, ever, in the history of my life stand an amount of gore and violence to this vast an extent. Whose bright idea was it to have a martial arts skill that made heads explode when hit on the belly? Those crazy Japanese artists and authors... (not meant in a serious way; I'm just joking!) I dunno, maybe violence was really big in the '70's or something. All I know is that this could be highly respectable if there were a modern, semi-violent version of this instead of the version with dated art and ultra-violence.
There is of course some seriousness, cool characters, and touching storyline in there, but when compared to exploding heads, what's going to be more memorable?
That's my Story and I'm Sticking to it!
