Sin the Movie
Episodes Reviewed: N/A; dubbed
Overall Grade: B
It wasn't bad; especially for a violent, mutant-filled anime.
Storyline: 7
The whole thing starts off with the death of this hacker... whats-his-name.... ah who cares, he's dead. Strange death actually; he turned into a mutant and was killed off by his best friend: main character John Blade. Ol' Blade appears to have connections to the mob, which attracts dead guy's sister who works for some government law enforcement division or something. Good thing that there's a suspicious corporation and mutants to further the story past this, right? And amazingly, the mutants actually tie in with the story quite nicely and sanely. Also, a mysterious little girl found in the sewer becomes a key part of the story. It's... kinda hard for me to tie that last sentence into my paragraph.
Type: Action/Drama
There are mutants; what the hell were you thinking?
Ch. Development: N/A
Sure, they develop a bit; well, mostly they just change their minds about a certain point of view.
Sexuality: 5
There is a shower scene and an over-the-clothes sex scene.
Romance: 4
Basically just nonexistent until near the end. Oh, and the one stud in this movie gets killed off right in front of the girl he's hitting on. Shame.
Drama: 6
Quite a bit o' that stuff here too. Y'know, there's the deaths, the lies, the poisoning of lovers right after they got into your business... yeah.
Action: 7
A whole bunch of blood and senseless killing of mutants and humans. Those poor guys... except for all the mutants.
Comedy: 1
Unless you find it comedic to see that annoying guy, cop, or mutant killed... not that funny.
Dub
Dub Voices: 10
They sound serious and dedicated to making their characters sound normal. It works. HEY, FUNIMATION!!! YA LISTENING?!
Dub Music: ??
Unknown by me.
Dub Lines: 10
Nothing to be embarassed about. No trying to sound cool or copying off talents from the Ocean Group. HEY FUNIMATION!!! YA LISTENING?!
From what I read from a copy of Gamefan magazine... the story of Sin comes from an FPS game (First Person Shooter; think Doom). This doesn't seem at all relevant unless you actually saw the game somewhere.
The story sounds acceptable. This is yet another anime based on a video game that is actually good! Unfortunately, little kids won't be able to recognize this fact. The drama of the anime works and managed to keep me watching the entire movie without fast-forwarding once. The animation quality is amazingly good except for times when the CG animation seems too out-of-place. The action and occasional blood splatter hasn't sickened me. Of course, after watching Fist of the North Star, little can get me sickened anymore. The romance qualities of the movie I could do without.
Okay, so those are all the qualities of a normally good anime. Now for the gripes. The movie is way too short. Oh, sure, it starts out all right, with okay pacing and definite progression, but towards the end things get to progress just way too fast, and eventually you may realize that there isn't enough background information. This is where the fact that the story comes from an FPS becomes relevant. The story is okay enough for that kind of game and is more suitable for it; it almost works for the anime, but like I said, the pacing got to go too fast. Shame. This could have been a great anime if only the length of the story could allow for more information and detail.
That's my Story and I'm Sticking to it!
