Martian Successor Nadesico
Episodes Reviewed: 1, one in the middle, and one near the end, courtesy of Toonami (pulls down one eyelid and sticks out tongue) Nyaaaa!
Overall Grade: A-
As much as I'm liking the themes of love, comedy, memories, and hidden powers, um... I can't think of anything negative. From what I've seen, this series has everything, even the quirky attitudes I love so much! Damn you, Cartoon Network.
Storyline: 6
I'm sure it's good whatever it is. Well, basically, from what I can gather, this boy lost his memory, but one day he sees a picture that makes him feel nostalgic... that's after his meeting with Yurika in the first episode. Meanwhile, Yurika is made captain of the Nadesico, which was to leave... a colony, I think, and for whatever reason that is I don't quite remember. All I know is, the kid gets into the cockpit of a robot and takes care of alien robots that threaten the place and becomes a member of the Nadesico in the process. This is interesting because seeing Yurika triggers some childhood memories or something like that, and at that point I can no longer guess with any accuracy whatsoever.
Type: Action/Romance/Comedy
Ch. Development: How should I know?
With 23/26 of the series omitted (that includes the ending), I can't judge.
Sexuality: Unknown
Romance: 5
Drama: 7
Action: 5
Comedy: 7
Dub
Dub Voices: 7
The voices were sorta "expected." That and I really am seriously annoyed by Spike Spencer's voices.
Dub Music: None
Dub Lines: OK, I guess
Censorship: You've gotta be kidding me
This is what I mean about Cartoon Network's disrespect of anime. You guys make me sick. To skip a number of episodes equal to a double-digit number is disgraceful. Was there some reason you graced us with a preview, then skipped to some middle episode and skip again to a dramatic showdown near the end? No one does that!
I'm not too sure what this series is supposed to be about, but the characters and what little I could pick up definitely got me interested. Unfortunately, my current plans include a certain Vampire Princess, so tough luck, MSD.
Of course, the series is worth a look. Don't think of it as a mech anime (but then again, most mech anime don't give you the idea that it's about the mechs... well, most good ones anyway). I'm more interested in what exactly the deal is with that boy, and what the mood is in the Nadesico between those skipped episodes. I'm really hoping for some romance on the side that doesn't involve the main girl, Yurika, because I'm always against the obvious. I prefer to be surprised, and if not that, I prefer to see the side characters happy.
Speaking of side characters, they all have their quirks, which has apparently become a staple in anime in the mid-90's. I'm beginning to think that those quirks exist because anime would be boring otherwise, but I prefer to suppress such suggestions.
Check it out, I guarantee it's ranked pretty high up there, kinda like Fushigi Yugi or Outlaw Star.
That's my Story and I'm Sticking to it!
