Armitage III Poly-Matrix
Episodes Reviewed: DVD, dubbed only (why?)

Overall Grade: A
An entertaining drama about robots, humanity, political intrigue, and meaningless violence.

Storyline: 10
(Obviously) set in the future, the death of a famous singer, shocks the planet.  Even more shocking: she was a robot.  Now, robots aren't new; there was a series of defective robots, which was replaced by a second series without those defects: a second series, or seconds.  The seconds had features that made it easy to tell they weren't human, and they followed orders like machines, so their personalities were easy to tell apart from a human's.  But this woman may just be proof that there is a third series: Thirds, which have the ability to think for themselves and make their own decisions, even give birth.  Ross Syllibus, a Chicago police officer that was transferred to Mars, made the discovery after his new partner, Naomi Armitage, uncovered the fact that the singer was murdered, but she was unable to capture the guy that did it.  That man, Danclaude, continues to kill Thirds, all of them women, and all of their deaths recorded and televised.  Although the two both want to end the killing, Armitage shows particular dislike of people who were against the robots, which include Syllibus.  But the series of killing of the Thirds proves to be bigger than serial killing, and Ross decides to join Naomi's cause to stop Danclaude as well as uncover the purpose of the Thirds.

Type: Action

Ch. Development: 8
Our heroes learn more about each other and themselves and find the strength to change the way they think in order to live and accomplish their goals.  Sounds pretty basic, but it works.

Sexuality: 7
Quite a bit of fanservice, some brief nudity, and a sexual scene that of course shows nothing.

Romance: 7
Remember that rule of anime where the two main characters must fall in love.

Drama: 7
Three sevens?  Wait, that's not important right now *ahem* Our two heroes suffer multiple hardships to uncover the truth of the Thirds and eventually take part on a "two people against an army" final battle of ultra-kick-ass proportions.

Action: 7
Lots of gunplay, explosions, broken glass, chase scenes, robots, and gallons of blood.

Comedy: 2
Some minor teasing

Dub
Dub Voices: 7
Hi-quality for the most part, but for some reason, Ross's voice doesn't sound right.  It's good, just not quite right.

Dub Music: N/A

Dub Lines: 10
REALLY good.  Not annoying at all.

Armitage is the defiinition of an fun, but not stupid, action anime.  Pioneer once again produces a highly enjoyable story and includes some of the most awesome powers I ever saw a robot use.  Let's not forget that somewhere there's a hidden meaning saying something about humanity somewhere in there.

Simply put (do I ever make it complex?), Armitage III is fun, action-packed, easy to follow, and leaves a lasting impression.  The only flaw is that I don't really see what the point was near the end, what with the killing of waves and waves of those army robots.

The dub is awesome, as is always the case with Pioneer, and it packs practically anything you could ever want in an anime.  Of course, that means it isn't too dedicated to any one genre other than the action and mystery, but that isn't really a bad thing in this case.  Definitely worth a watch.  I just wish I knew what the point was in having the subtitle, Poly-Matrix.  What does that even mean?

That's my Story and I'm Sticking to it!
