Episodes Reviewed: DVD Edited
Overall Grade: D
A very interesting concept that fails in execution.
Storyline: 10
Two teenagers, a boy and a girl, were brought up to be vigilante assassins by an out-of-line cop and some other guy I don't know the background to. The girl, Sawa, owes it to the cop who brought her up after her parents were killed. She was trained to kill and carries out her orders no matter the target, but her recent targets seem different from the kind of criminals she's used to, and she wonders if it's right to kill them. Nevertheless she continues her dangerous job, although she plans along with the other guy to leave this life... but their "guardians" won't give them up so easily... well there may be some differences, but if anything what i said makes it look better.
Type: Action
Ch. Development: 0
There are things that look like development, but it often looks like they were planned early. Thus, I give it a 0.
Sexuality: 6-8
The edited version I saw had some sexual scenes and nudity in the upper half of the body, but I hear there's more... much more in the unedited version. Now I have to sell my DVD. Eh, it had problems on it anyway.
Romance: 3
Technically the two assassins didn't show signs of being in love with each other, so it's implied.
Drama: 5
The action is frustrating more than it is exciting, and you could call the plot twists 10 minutes ahead of time.
Action: 8
Guns... that have bullets... that explode... in heads. Blood... brains... at least there's no bone. Had there been, it would be a 10.
Comedy: 0
Dub: I refuse to watch... yet.
So, from what I've said, it sounds interesting, huh? Well, like I said, the execution is just wrong, wrong, wrong! First of all, the art style looks old, and the character design is... "feh." The worst part about it is that the faces always look so expressionless. Flashbacks of the past are put in probably the worst places. And for a couple of assassins that were brought up knowing only of killing, you'd think that they'd be more professional or at least have skill. Instead they rely on their special guns that fire bullets that explode. If they were trying to make these two seem realistic, then they shouldn't have given them the damned guns! Real guns should be used if you want them to seem realistic! In fact, the way that the characters' desensitation to violence is conveyed just seems wrong... it almost seems funny. Finally, the ending sends a chill down your spine and a powerful message... but you don't have to think very long before you realize it should be IMPOSSIBLE!
Of course, if you don't care about execution and care more about the simple things and the content, no one's stopping you from watching it. Go ahead and rent it if you want, but if you wanna buy, at least look for the unedited version. Unfortunately, there's no way of finding out if you have the edited version until you've watched it. The box doesn't say "edited version" or anything like that anywhere.
That's my Story and I'm Sticking to it!
