Bubblegum Crash
There's a Bubblegum Crash now?
Episodes Reviewed: 1-3, DVD
Overall Grade: C
Without the music, the fun, the overall life of Bubblegum Crisis, it's just plain mediocre.
Storyline: 5
After a long hiatus, the Knight Sabers are back in action, with a new enemy in high-powered armored suits. They are remnants of the illegal army, which was thought to have been killed years ago in the Philippines. Well, whatever, they're back now. But the Knight Sabers (well, just make that Priss and Linna) have been enjoying some success in their careers, and it might be in their best interest not to fight... yeah right! As if everything would end like that! Yep, they're back, and they're kicking ass like always! What the hell kind of summary is that?
Type: Action
Five girls in hardsuits fighting... I think that counts as action.
Ch. Development: 4
Most of the change happens during the first episode... after that, they're static once again. And you can't say that they've changed at all when you think about it.
Sexuality: 5
There is very little in the way of fanservice, and when there is, it's completely meaningless. Since when did Sylia introduce missions in saunas? And don't even think about nudity... the most you get is a butt shot of Sylia... the least attractive (IMO) member of the Knight Sabers.
Romance: 0
I keep thinking and thinking and come up with nothing. Don't worry; there will always be fan-fics. And although one person does declare love, I have decided to ignore that, because I don't believe him.
Drama: 4
Sure, there's the basic amount of fights and twists necessary to keep the story going, but it isn't exciting at all.
Action: 3
*yawn* fighting, shooting, occasional skewering... but it isn't half as violent as Bubblegum Crisis.
Comedy: 2
Most of the comedy is supposed to come from Linna, Nene, and Leon, but it comes across as "I acknowledge that as funny, but I'm not laughing."
Dub: C
Dub Voices: 5
Still not too fond of these voices.
Dub Music: N/A
Dub Lines: 7
They're okay.
Censorship: ???
Judgment for this is still up in the air.
This series pisses me off. Seriously. But I can't hate it. Thus, it's somewhere in between. I don't like the fact that it's basically all action, with practically no breaks, and then there is the fact that Leon's involvement, which has been miniscule-but-helpful in Crisis, turns out to be completely meaningless in Crash. There are many inconsistencies, such as the programming of the Boomers (how can a Boomer that looks and sounds human be new, when Crisis was full of them?) and the lack of my favorite weapons, the needle blaster and knuckle buster.
However, Bubblegum Crash ties up a few loose ends from Bubblegum Crisis, such as what happened to Mason (remember when he fled in the third episode?) and unanswered questions. All in all, these qualities cancel each other out to make one mediocre series.
That's my Story and I'm Sticking to it!
