Flint the Time Detective
Episodes Reviewed: Unknown, Fox Kids/Fox Family version
Overall Grade: B
Not only does it combine action and comedy with a cave boy, his stone hammer (and father), two child sidekicks, an evil teacher, and time travel, but it's also educational!
Storyline: 6
Lessee...a cave boy is fossilized into an egg, and so is his father, if I am remembering it correctly, by a leather-clad evil chick and two mutant sidekicks. Some time in the future, they are returned to their original form... well, the boy is, as for the father, he's a talking stone hammer... and they now work with some sort of organization involving a time travel device and strange beings that are scattered through time. Well, all of those strange beings happen to be power ful, and occasionally cute. The girl that fossilized the boy and his pop is part of an evil force trying to use those powers for... well, evil. And a boy and girl help out the boy, Flint, along the way, with help from historical figures.
Type: Action/Comedy
Ch. Development: 1
Stuff happens, and the plot develops, but practically nothing in the way of characters developing.
Sexuality: 4
The sheer existence of a hot green-haired chick in red leather gives it a 4.
Romance: 4
Ah, unrequited love.... means that practically nothing happens aside from comments made when a character is alone.
Drama: 3
There are some intense (considering the age of the target audience) scenes, but nothing too serious, and they're almost always related to the common bonds of friendship.
Action: 5
How many times must we see the same cave boy hit a monster with a giant stone hammer?
Comedy: 5
Nothing really funny, but there is a lot of lightheartedness... that's a kind of comedy... right?
Dub: C+
Dub Voices: 6
Voices are as expected from people who think they're doing an average American cartoon... maybe even better.
Dub Music: 5
I hardly remember any BGM, but the opening song was somewhat catchy.... mainly because it's the same thing over and over again, but catchy nonetheless.
Dub Lines: 6
Okay.
Censorship: Unnecessary?
Technically, I've already said all there is to say. A primitive boy and his two child human sidekicks travel through time to retrieve often cute mascot-looking monsters in order to prevent some evil organization from using their unique powers for evil. Rather simple, really. Some of the character designs are good, and the occasional twinkling teeth gag will make the young'uns laugh, others annoyed. The puns are.... there, and you might learn something about history. But then, I suppose people said that years ago about Sherman and Peabody on Rocky and Bullwinkle, right?
For about twenty or so episodes, it's the same old formula, then there's a climactic set of episodes that ends it all, and that's basically it. Nothing new, but it ain't too bad.
That's my Story and I'm Sticking to it!
