Karrif Plague Spreads Throughout Cities
Currently a plague of the rare drug known as Karrif has swept throughout the lands of Aragon and Alqhouex. The drug was originally spread into the cities within loaves of polluted bread. Karrif as a drug may be smoken, inhaled, injected or ingested. The ultimate effect and the addiction that follows seem unstoppable by herbal medicines or magical purifications. In many early cases the victims where slain, their bodies burned out by the toxin within their systems.
Karrif is a deep purple fibrous substance that smells faintly if cinnamon and vinnila, and has a physical texture to spider webbing. The drug is grown on the vine and as plant life goes is very resistant to weather and physical trauma. The vines of this plant resemble ivy with multiple, small purple berries. The juice of these berries is similar to taffy and once pulped may be "woven" into strands. Karrif is usually transported in "blocks" weighing one or two pounds.
When mixed with food or even some wines the drug is impossible to detect and just as deadly. It only takes a few ounces for a person to become a victim, and suffer from the first stages of addiction. The drug is powerful enough to effect even the strongest Dwarven constitutions.
Karrif has four known stages of addiction.
The first stage causes extreme feelings of bliss and overconfidence. Side effects include a raised body temperature and an increase in general body metabolism. Breaking the addiction at this stage is relatively simple requiring isolation from the drug for three weeks.
The second stage causes continued feelings of bliss and superiority. At this point the victims body has undergone minor physical changes in normal body temperature and metabolism. Light purple veins in the eyes and skin. The victim may also be prone to fits of rage and random violent episodes. At this point no amount of isolation, herbal or mystical curing will cure the addiction.
At the third stage of addiction the victim of Karrif is a near mindless being of rage. The victim is still lucid and capable of cognitive thought, allowing him or her to fight with tactical planning. The Karrif has completely altered the physiology of the victim increasing strength and constitution to near super-human levels. Eyes that glow with purple light and deep purple veins within the skin.
The four stage of addiction has transformed the victim into a real monster. Rage and violence control every thought as well as super-human strength, constitution and recovery abilities. A blow from a stage four may shatter stone and wood with ease as the Karrif induced strength causes structural damage. The victim's eyes are now solid purple, and as they exhale small trace amounts of Karrif are expelled from their lungs.
Citizens are urged to report any sightings of Karrif or Karrif addiction to their local Nobility or Town Guard.
