The Gargoyle
PC Race for D&D
The Gargoyle has always been a symbol of both fear and protection, used for eons to guard temples, perched on rooftops and scowling at all who would dare draw near. Some say that when needed these creatures would shake free of the stone encasing their bodies to fly down and alight upon those who meant ill for those within it's master's house. Still others believed that these stone statues were not carved, but rather that the creature who came to rest on the rooftop is only sleeping, striking a fierce pose to act as a warning to those who would try to remove them. Whether naturally born, or created by magic, the origins of these beautiful, frightening monsters is still a mystery, perhaps never to be solved…

Innate Spell Abilities:
All Gargoyles possess the ability to cast certain magical spells, which they learn over time in order to protect themselves. Each spell takes an action to cast and an action to dispell.
1 st level: Stone Sleep
When this spell is cast the Gargoyle goes to sleep for 8 hours. During this time they cannot be awakened by any means until the 8 hours has passed. While asleep, the Gargoyle does not age and is protected by 1 Stoneskin, plus 1 contingency/chain contingency Stoneskin per their age category. The Gargoyle will also heal 1 hit point per age category per hour of their "sleep". Upon awakening, all Stoneskins are removed from the stone shell raining pebbles down upon them except for 1.
3 rd level: Human Shape
When this spell is cast, the Gargoyle is able to shift their body in such a way as to appear human. They do not lose their bonuses or benefits, and all weaknesses remain in effect. If winged, the wings meld down into the human shape so as not to be detected, and hands and feet are also altered to appear human. This shape can be maintained for 8 hours, taking one round to activate and one round to dispell, and can be cast once per 12 hours.
5 th level: Stoneskin
When this spell is cast, the Gargoyle gains a 1 st edition Stoneskin without having to go to Sleep. This spell can only be cast once per day and only upon the self. If the Gargoyle already has a Stoneskin it will negate the spell.
6 th level: Strength of the Earth
When this spell is cast, the Gargoyle is able to alter their body weaponry to do more effective damage. The effect lasts for 1 round per age category, allowing the Gargoyle to strike as a +2 weapon, and may be cast once per day.
7 th level: Strength of the Wind
When this spell is cast, the Gargoyle is able to increase their maneuverability class by 1 per 3 age categories while in flight. This spell can be cast once per 12 hours and lasts for 1 round per age category.
8 th level: Stone Guardian
When this spell is cast, the Gargoyle is granted the ability to protect someone within his or her "Stone Sleep". As with the 1 st level spell, the effect lasts for 8 hours, granting Stoneskins while they are encased in stone, however the Gargoyle may wrap their arms around someone thereby casting the spell upon that person as well, and affecting them with all the benefits of "Stone Sleep".
9 th level: Strength of Fury
When this spell is cast, the Gargoyle is granted the ability to strike with their body weaponry as a +3 weapon. The spell may be cast once per day and the effect lasts 1 round per age category.

Upon obtaining certain Age Categories the Gargoyle is more difficult to affect with weapons and gains bonuses to their Armor Class.
