The Ottawa Senators were finally able to christen their new home when the Corel Centre officially opened its doors on January 17, 1996 when their first home game was played. Formerly known as The Palladium, this 18,500-seat multi-purpose sports and entertainment facility was built in a record 18 months, at a cost of $170 million Cdn. In anticipation of the venue’s popularity, a new arena-specific four-lane interchange was built to provide direct access from Highway 417 at a cost of approximately $30 million.
