The $213 million Philips Arena is a state-of-the-art multipurpose sport and entertainment complex that was developed in Atlanta by Turner Sports & Entertainment Development, Inc., an Atlanta-based subsidiary of Turner Broadcasting System, Inc. (an AOL Time Warner Company).
The arena is part of a 25-acre re-development tract in downtown Atlanta that serves as a catalyst for the continued urban renaissance of the area by improving pedestrian access and parking facilities, and creating safe, vibrant public spaces that welcome pedestrian traffic.
Philips Electronics' products are featured throughout the arena. More than 1,000 Philips video monitors are used in the arena and the adjacent CNN Center; all video components and lighting sources in public areas of the new facility are Philips Electronics products; and fans can look forward to the latest digital technologies from Philips as they are introduced at the Philips Experience, a 10,000 square-foot showcase encompassing different hands-on activities for Philips Arena visitors. Each activity within the Philips Experience is interactive and allows guests the opportunity to see, touch, move and control much of the action taking place. Located in the Thrasher's Nest, The Philips Experience is the first interactive space of its kind in an arena. The Philips Experience is free and open to attendees during all regular Philips Arena events.
.
Philips Arena is built on the former site of the Omni Coliseum, which was imploded in July 1997. The arena connects with CNN Center and leads into both Centennial Olympic Park and Georgia International Park.
