The Phillies New Ballpark is set to open in April 2004. This 43,000 seat, state-of-the-art ballpark will undoubtedly be the ultimate baseball and entertainment experience. Featuring natural grass . . . a dirt playing field . . . a scenic view of the Philadelphia skyline . . . an open-air atmosphere and more, the New Ballpark will be an exciting destination for all fans.
The Ballpark will be located east of Veterans Stadium on the north side of Pattison Avenue in South Philadelphia, and will span a 21-acre site. This new venue combines the essence of Philadelphia's rich tradition of sports architecture with an unmistakenly modern 21st century style. All fans will be right on top of the action in this intimate environment.
The festive outfield entertainment area, which spans the entire outfield concourse, is another great feature of the New Ballpark. Here, fans can enjoy family-fun amenities, lively entertainment, and enhanced concessions offering a variety of delicious foods and refreshments.
In addition, the ballpark will include roof deck bleacher seats, a special bullpen viewing area, a bi-level Scoreboard Restaurant and a street level Sports Pub Cafe. More highlights include an exceptional video board and sound system, as well as special premium seating in the Diamond Club area and at the Mezzanine Club level for entertaining clients.
As an added bonus, fans approaching the New Ballpark can catch a glimpse of the baseball field from outside the gates, and enter the ballpark at street level (no more ramps to enter the main concourse!). Nearly half of the fans will actually step down to the Lower Level seats to watch the game on a playing field that's 23 feet below street level.
The "bowl" style seating, combined with a cantilevered steel structure, is specifically designed to put fans close to the action and maximize sightlines to the field. In fact, the New Ballpark is so intimate that it can fit inside of Veterans Stadium with plenty of room to spare. To capture the scenic view of Philadelphia's Center City skyline, the field will be oriented with home plate to the south and centerfield to the north - counterclockwise from the current Veterans Stadium orientation.
Another great feature at the New Ballpark is the suites, which will be in close proximity to the playing field - with the majority being only 13 feet above the main concourse. In addition, all suites will be located on the infield side of the foul poles.
For the young and young at heart, the Phillies New Ballpark will be an electifying experience for all fans - and is certain to be the pride of Philadelphia.
