Many people would be surprised to know that Sylphiel is one of my favorite Slayers characters. They say normally you like the character you are most like, or can identify most with. I'm not at all like Sylphiel. I'm rude, ugly, obnoxious and I can't cook (And I have VERY high self-esteem!). The only thing Sylphiel and I really have in common is our capacity for caring, and sometimes caring for other people too much.

When I first saw Slayers, I hated Sylphiel! I wanted her as far away from Lina and Gourry as I could get her! None of my friends liked her either, and quite a few popcorn kernels were thrown her direction at that time. However, soon I grew out of the bashing stage. And I started to look at things with my own eyes.

Sylphiel started to strike me as cute. I began to feel sorry for her because of all the horrible things that had happened to her, and because it was obvious Gourry did not return her love. I think every girl can identify with that! When I finally saw Sylphiel in NEXT, I was blown away by how much she'd grown up. I couldn't believe she'd actually learned the Dragon Slave! I was also very impressed by her maturity when she realised that Gourry and Lina were in love. She didn't cry, pout, or try anything stupid. She accepted it, and hopefully moved on with her life.

I first made this shrine as a smaller part of a big project--a huge shrine to every single character in Slayers. But soon I found it taking precedence over all my other shrines. As I found very little information or pictures of Sylphiel, I became sort of obsessed. I liked her more with each minute.

Now Sylphiel is one of, if not my favorite characters in Slayers. Even though we have nothing in common, I still love dear Sylphiel-chan!
