Maryfield College, a Catholic Secondary School for girls was founded in 1945 by the sisters of the Cross-and Passion. From small beginnings it has grown to a school of over 650 pupils and 40 teaching members of staff. The building has several extensions over the years, the most recent one was completed in 1985 and incorporates three new Home Economics rooms, a Language Laboratory, a History Room, Geography Room and general classrooms. The curriculum has also developed with a view to meeting modern needs and new career prospects. The introduction of the new Junior Certificate and the new syllabi for the most Leaving Certificate subjects has been welcomed. Since 1994 the school ahs offered a Six-Year Cycle. The Transition year is offered to about 50 students only but this will be reviewed when the extra accommodation is available. In March 1987 a Board of Management was established for Maryfield College and is welcomed as a support for all its activities and development in the future. We see the school above all as a community in itself, made up of management, staff, parents and pupils, all united in a common purpose and working together to achieve its common aims. Our task is to draw out the varied talents and gifts of each pupil, recognising her individuality, yet calling on each one to make contribution to the whole group. For young people especially, school is a time of growth growth in knowledge, understanding, wisdom and responsibility towards themselves and others. The measure of each ones growth is the measure of the enrichment of the entire group.
