Mission
The Northeastern Pennsylvania Emerald Society is a fraternal society for Irish-American police officers and firefighters. It was formed in January of 2000, for the purpose of bringing together Irish-American Public Safety Officers in a social environment to explore and enjoy our heritage and professions.
By March of that year had 65 active members and we were able to join the National Conference of Law Enforcement Emerald Societies (NCLEES). We are the 53 chapter of a rapidly growing national organization. We currently have over 120 members from four counties on Northeastern Pennsylvania.
Purpose
The purpose of the Northeastern Pennsylvania Emerald Society is to:
1. To develop a spirit of fraternalism and fellowship among its members
2. To encourage active participation in community activities
3. To encourage and enhance professionalism within the public safety professions
4. To instill and preserve in its members the heritage of their Irish culture
5. To recognize and promote the accomplishments and contributions of our ancestors
and fellow Irish-Americans
6. To promote a positive sentiment towards public safety
7. To provide family oriented social cultural atmosphere within the public safety community
8. To communicate and educate the public of the virtues and accomplishments of public safety
9. To aid and assist worthy and needy members
10. To aid active member families in the event of a line of duty death.
