Fort George 1749 - today
Fort George was built after 1746 to rule the highlands and "pacify" the clans. It controls the firth of Moray
and is thus better situated than Inverness.
When the Fort was finally built there was no further threat from the Jacobites so it was used as a recruiting
camp and also as a training camp and still is in use. The tour was interesting, especially the explanations of
a soldier of the british army explaining the use of musket, bajonet and also explaining proverbs.
This site is yet to be developed... please come back later, I have some photographs and a bit of history to tell but not yet uploaded owing to
maintenance works on the entire website...
