Inveraray Castle is the seat of the Campbell Dukes of Argyll. The new Castle was built for the 5th Duke of Argyll and completed in 1789 and must have been much more comfortable than Kilchurn Castle where the Dukes of Argyll used to reside.
The centre of the four floored building is a huge tower that is entirely occupied by just one room, the tallest room in Scotland, 21 m high, which is sourrounded by a gallery and four sourrounding wings with four round gothic towers in the corners of the castle.
The central tower contains a collection of arms under which is the Rob Roy's dirk. There are many fine pictures decorating the walls of the gallery and the surrounding rooms. Unfortunately: No photographs!
There are more photographs still to come of my 2004-tour to Scotland but they have not yet found their way into the computer.
