In old times the Kings of Scotland used to reside at Perth and to be crowned at Scone. Here they had to step on the Lia Fal, the Stone of Destiny that would cry and weep if a pretender, not worth the honour would step on it. The Stone had been brought from Ireland and there is the story that it was first Jacob's pillow, then St. Joseph's of Arimathea's boat, carrying himself and Scotia to Ireland. The Stone rested on the hill of Tara for a long time and was Called Innisfoil - Stone of Fortune.
Then it came to Skye, blessed the rock of Dunvegan passed on to Iona and Argyll. Finally it came to rest at Scone until Edward I seized the Stone and brought it to Westminster where it rested in the abbey for almost 700 years - only disturbed from time to time by being taken away to Scotland and again returned to England.
In 1996 finally after having been stolen for several times the Stone of Destiny returned from Westminster to Edinburgh Castle where it is shown along with the Regalia of Scoland.
