Ruthven Barracks 1719 - 1746
Ruthven Barracks were built in 1719 along with three other forts to rule the highlands and "pacify" the clans.
Before their defeat at Culloden the Jacobites in 1746 took the barracks situated on a hill and overlooking vast
parts of the highlands.
Ruthven Barracks consist of two houses with three floors on each of which were two rooms to house 10 soldiers.
Thus 120 soldiers lived on the hill that had formerly been the site of a medieval castle.
This site is yet to be developed... please come back later, I have some photographs and a bit of history to tell but not yet uploaded owing to
maintenance works on the entire website...
