Skipness Castle lies a bit south of Tarbert at the western shore of the Sound of Bute and can be seen from the Arran-ferry from Lochranza. There is a good cafe nearby and a river at which we played with the children. But beware, we got sunburnt in 2001!

The castle itself commands the Sound of Bute and prevents incoming raiders from approaching to Loch Fyne.

It is now a ruin but still very impressive!

Nearby is Kilbrannan Chapel, which contains some very old grave slabs which are obviously very common all over Kintyre and Knapdale differing in that point from other places in Scotland.
