HISTORY OF WARREN CO. GA. 1793-1974
p. 177-8 The "Gardner Volunteers"
The boys of Warren County, who were enlisting in the second company
from the county, met under the oak tree in the corner of the Methodist
Church yard, next to the home of Col. E. P. Davis, on August 6, 1861.
They boarded the mule car at the station where the church now stands
and were drawn to Camak where they entrained for Augusta. Arriving
at the City they were met by Capt. James A. Gardner, a commission
merchant and cotton buyer, who presented them with a large silk
Confederate flag and they selected the name "The Gardner Volunteers."
Below is the muster roll of the "Gardner Volunteers,"
Company "H" 22nd Ga. Regiment.
