Pursuant to an Act of the General Assembly passed the 16th of
March 1783. We the Commissioners of the Treasury have this Day
delivered to Mr. PHILIP CONOWAY this our Indented Certificate
for the Sum of One pound five shillings and eight pence Sterling
Militia Duty on the account payed by the Commissioners the said
PHILIP CONNOWAY his Executors, Administrators, or Assigns,
will be entitled to receive from this Office the Sum of One Shilling
and Nine pence on the demand for one Year's interest on the
principal Sum of One pound five shills and the like interest
annually.
The said PHILIP CONNOWAY his Executors, Administrators, or
assigns, will be entitled also to receive, and shall be paid, if
demanded, the principal Sum of one pound five shillings & eight
pence on the 9th of October 1788 And the said PHILIP
CONNOWAY his Executors, Administrators, or Assigns, may
make any purchases at any Public Sales of Confiscated Property,
(except such as shall be ordered by the Legislature for Special
Purposes) and this INDENT shall be received in Payment.
For the true performance of the several Payments in Manner
above mentioned, the PUBLIC TREASURY is made liable, and
the FAITH of the STATE pledged by the aforesaid ACT.
Given under our hands at the TREASURY OFFICE in
CHARLESTON, the ninth Day of October One Thousand Seven
Hundred and Eighty Six.

Pursuant to an ACT of the GENERAL ASSEMBLY passed the
16th of March 1783, We, the Commissioners of the Treasury
have this Day delivered to for Estate of PHILIP CONAWAY this
our Indented Certificate, for the Sum of Thirty Pounds Sterling
for 210 days Militia Duty as a Horseman in 1781 & 1782 as pr.
account audited the said his Executors, Administrators, or assigns,
will be entitled to receive from this Office the sum of Two pounds
two shillings on Demand for one Year's interest on the principal
Sum of Thirty Pounds, and the like Interest annually.
The said his Executors, Administrators or Assigns, will be entitled
also to receive and shall be paid, if demanded, the principal sum of
thirty Pounds. On the Third June 1787 And the said his Executors, Administrators
or Assigns, may make any Purchases at any Public
sales of Confiscated Property, (except such as shall be ordered by
the Legislature for special Purposes;) and this Indent shall be
received in Payment. For the true Performance of the several
Payments in Manner above mentioned, the Public Treasury is made
liable and the Faith of the State pledged by the aforesaid ACT.
Given under our Hands at the Treasury Office, in Charleston, the
Third Day of June One Thousand Seven Hundred and Eighty five.

Governor and commander in chief in and over the said State.
To all to whom these Presents shall come, GREETING:
Know Ye, that in Pursuance of the Act for opening the Land
Office, and by virtue of the powers in me vested, I have, by
and with the Advice and consent of the Honorable the Executive
Council, given and granted, and by these Presents, in the Name
and Behalf of the said State, Do give and grant unto PHILLIP
CONNOWAY, his Heirs and Assigns forever, All that tract or
Parcel of Land, containing three hundred and thirty acres
situate lying and being in the County of Wilkes in the said
State, and butting and bounding west by Broad River North
West by D. Adams land and William Deedlys South East by
John Alford and Surveyed land and North east by Darden's
Land having such shape, form, and marks, as appear by a Plat
of the same hereunto annexed; together with all and singular
the Rights, Members, and appurtenances thereof, whatsoever,
to the said Tract of Parcel of Land belonging, or in any wise
appertaining; and also all the Estate, Right, Title, Interest,
Claim and Demand, of the State aforesaid, of, in, to, or out of
the same:
TO HAVE AND TO HOLD the said Tract or Parcel of Land, and
all and singular the Premises aforesaid, with their and every of
their rights, Members, and appurtenances, unto the said PHILLIP
CONNOWAY, his heirs and assigns to his and their own proper use
and Behoof forever, in Fee-Simple.
Given under my Hand in Council,
and the Great Seal of the said State,
this Thirty first Day of December in
the Year of our Lord, One Thousand

This Indenture made this thirtieth day of July in the year of our
Lord one Thousand Seven Hundred and Ninety two and in the
Seventeenth Year of the Independence of the United States of
America Between PHILIP CONWAY and MARGRET his Wife
of the County of Elbert and State of Georgia of the one part and
Christopher Starr of the aforesaid County and State of the other
part Witnesseth that the Said PHILIP CONIWAY and MARGRET
his wife for and in consideration of the Sum of Seventy pounds
lawful money of the Said State to us in hand paid by the Law
Christopher Starr along before the Sealing and delivery of these
presents the Receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged hath
granted Bargained sold released and confirmed and by these
presents doth Grant Bargain, sell, release and confirm unto the
Said Christopher Starr his heirs and assigns all that tract or
parcel of land lying in the County of Elbert on the Waters of
Broad River containing two Hundred and fifty acres of land be
the same more or less Beginning at a + post oak SE 22.50 to a
pine + NE 37.00 to a spanish oak + to a post oak + N 50 E 42 to
a pine +NW 2 to a red oak + SW 31.00 to a Red oak + S 20 W 13
to a pine + N 70W 23.00 to Red Oak + S 20 W37.00 to a pine
thence a straight line to the beginning Corner Bounded on the
Northwest by James Patton & John Thornhills land on the East
by Same Surveyed by John Darden & on the South by Wm.
Dudley's land Together with all and Singular the Rights members
and appurtenances thereof whatsoever to the said tract of land
belonging in anywise appertaining & The Remainder, Revisions,
Rents, Issues and profits thereof and every part there of To have
and to hold the said tract of land and all and singular the premises
and appurtenances thereunto belonging as aforesaid and every part
thereof unto this said Christopher Star his heirs and assigns to the
only proper use benefit and behoof of the said Christopher Starr his
heirs and assigns forever and the said PHILIP CONIWAY and
MARGRET his wife for their Part and their heirs the said tract of
Land and premises aforesaid and every part though unto the said
Christopher Starr his heirs and assign against any claim the said
PHILIP CONIWAY and MARGRET his Wife and their heirs and
all and every other person and persons whatsoever shall and will
warrant and forever defend by these presents
