Ultra Symphony
Chapter 14: The Truth?
***
Mikono wiped angry tears out of her eyes as she stormed back into the medical bay. It had taken her an inordinate amount of time to find the damn place, because from the outside, all the rooms looked exactly the same, and in her rage, she wasn't exactly thinking clearly. She sobbed with fury, and began looking around the room for her things.
As the highly successful rockstar she had been before she got mixed up in all this Ultraman crap, she had never been accustomed to failure, or weakness, or vulnerability, all of which she felt when Kakei had so sedately mentioned battling. She didn't know what it was that had overtaken her sensibility and made her so terrified, but it wasn't something she was prepared to deal with again.
As she opened and slammed cupboards, she wasn't watching what she was doing, and her hand scraped against the sharp edge of one of the cupboard doors. She yelped, and held her hand against her. "Dammit!!" She hissed, trying to blink back the tears that now came with the pain. "I can't even control my emotions for something as minor as this!" She lifted up her hand and glared at the blood that was trickling from her cut. She found herself slightly mesmerized by the dark red liquid, at first just because she was trying to get a grip on the pain.
But a moment after that, she started to wonder exactly why the blood had a certain, almost invisible greenish tint to it.
Her eyes widened, and she suddenly felt nothing but terror. Her blood wasn't even the correct consistency, it almost looked like tinted water in her nearly blind fear.
What the hell is going on?!?!, her mind raced, and suddenly she remembered the operation that Kakei had talked about.
But what sort of operation would do this?!
She only knew one thing, and that was that she had to get out.
Whatever kind of sadists Kakei and Ikeda are, they aren't having me as one of their pawns! She was beginning to wonder if the whole Ultraman thing was all a crock; if they were.. oh, god, but she'd SEEN them transform, she knew Kakei was an Ultraman... but why didn't they mention anything about this?!
She felt sick to her stomach as she ran like hell out of the medical bay, going roughly the same way she had been going as she had followed Kakei. Terrified tears flew out of her eyes and her lungs burned. She finally reached a domestic looking glass door, threw herself through it, landing on the pavement in hysterics. She sensed the concrete scraping against her legs and face, but didn't even feel it, all she was able to do was sob.
She became vaguely aware of voices surrounding her, but she couldn't make out discernable words. She just lay on the ground, screaming and crying.
After an interminable amount of time, she lost awareness of everything.
