Ultra Symphony

Chapter 39: Melted Heart pt. 4

Zoffy felt, as well as heard, the blasts that sent his comrades to the ground. He whirled around, forgetting everything except the fact that two of his people had been hit.

Theresa and Jack fell down, as Zoffy ran to their side. Slightly darker red blood was his greeting, as Jack attempted to mentally set aside his pain, and Theresa felt rage pulsing through her.

"Their.. weapon... is quite... powerful, captain." Theresa gasped out, trying to get to her feet.

"I think they mean business about killing us, too. I'm bleeding enough to flood Tokyo." Jack said, laughing a little.

Zoffy silently stood back up, standing in front of the two. Their assailants stood by, the guns still drawn, ready to fire again.

"We do regret our actions, Captain." The woman uttered.

"I'm afraid your credibility has gone down the drain." Zoffy said icily. "The moment you draw Ultra blood, I have no choice but to take this as a declaration of war. I would advise your superior to return and take responsibility as well."

"Captain, be careful..." Theresa whispered.

The monsters prepared to fire, but Zoffy was a bit too quick for them, and they found their guns very quickly turned the opposite way, in his hands.

"Move away." Zoffy commanded. The monsters didn't seem in the least afraid, but they did as he said, backing up to where their commander and other allies had stopped.

"Oh, Captain Zoffy. You must realize we haven't got time for this sort of thing." Their commander said exasperatedly.

Theresa and Jack had managed to get to their feet behind Zoffy, and he looked back at them momentarily.

Theresa took this as a cue, and she placed her left forearm horizontally against her right elbow, as her eyes briefly illuminated pink. "ESTORIUM... RAY!!!"

Jack quickly took his place and performed the same action, his eyes glowing red. "Specium... RAY!!!"

"Status?!" Murasaki asked.

"All ground and aerial units accounted for, Commander. The Ultras have managed to get all the monsters in one spot somehow..!" Toba replied. "Well, damn, this is gonna be easy."

"There's something screwy with those monsters, if you ask me. They look... just plain funky." Ai replied to Toba's report.

"Disapproval noted, Sakamoto. Stand by and open fire on my command." Murasaki commanded.

Itoh sat by, shaking his head. "This is such a bad idea.. I can not believe what a bad idea this is..."

"Commander, Theresa and Jack have fired!" Toba cried.

"Follow it up!" Murasaki exclaimed. "Fire!!!"

As Theresa, Jack, and all of MEU fired their weapons at the evil Ultras, Zoffy looked down at the guns in his hands, sort of momentarily detaching himself from the present and studying the advanced forms of weaponry.

Looking back up, he saw that the combined fire had been ineffective, and in fact, a large shield had been erected around the enemy Ultras.

"We must apologize, Captain. Your war will have to wait." The leader of the enemy said with more than a little irony in his voice.

Zoffy looked back down at the guns in his hands, and shrugged. "So be it. War can always wait."

He then lifted the guns and fired them at the quintet. Power surged out of the forcefield, and a strange power wafted out of the city toward the sky.

"I guess this way it isn't war."

The five Ultras were engulfed in the energy, and they screamed, at last showing some sort of emotion. When the blast died down, five enemy Ultras collapsed, into the shape of a star.

"C-Captain..." Theresa began. She didn't get so much as another breath out before the bodies of the enemy Ultras began to glow.

Murasaki's display had a slight delay, and her happy voice rang throughout the communication units of MEU, ordering them back, and then immediately belaying her former order.

"Good god, now what?!"

The enemy Ultras' glow slowly rose up, and suddenly, the light became blinding. When it died down, all that remained was the damaged city.

"They're... gone!!" Murasaki cried.
