Vancouver Sun
Saturday, August 10, 2002
A Langley man has died from injuries sustained in a mountain-biking accident at Whistler .
Alan George Moore, 33, was riding on the Crabapple Hits trail in the Whistler Mountain Bike Park when the accident occurred about 4 p.m. Thursday.
Whistler-Blackcomb spokesman Christopher Nicholson said Moore was going off the last jump on the trail.
Crabapple Hits, one of 30 trails in the Whistler Mountain Bike Park, is known for its series of jumps, or hits, and is rated for expert riders, said Nicholson.
Two patrol members attended the scene and Moore was taken to the Whistler Health Clinic by ambulance. He later died at the clinic from his injuries.
Whistler/Pemberton RCMP and the B.C. coroner's office are investigating the accident.
The coroner has ordered a post-mortem examination.
This is the first time in the history of the bike park that anyone has died from injuries sustained while riding the trails.
The mountain bike park sees an average of 450 riders a day at this time of year.
