The highlights of NBC's "Saturday Night Live," were two sketches as scathing and funny as anything from the long-running series' fabled past. The targets of the satiric attacks were "Saturday Night Live" itself; its studio audience; its executive producer, Lorne Michaels; NBC's sister cable-news channel, MSNBC; and, remarkably, Stern himself.

Stern, Michaels and "SNL" were sliced and diced in a new "TV Funhouse" segment from
producer/writer Robert Smigel and animator J.J. Sedelmaier.

Combining outrageous cartoon visuals with audio from previously aired "SNL" sketches and Stern's own radio shows, Smigel and co-writer Adam McKay constructed a scenario in which Stern attacks "SNL" sketches as lame while trumpeting the superiority of his own material.

The Smigel-McKay cartoon includes shots of deranged "SNL" audience members committing suicide during the show; cast members crassly hawking show-related souvenirs from the stage;  and Michaels ignoring the show while obsessing over movie spin-offs of "SNL" characters.

The cartoon Stern, meanwhile, is shown vomiting on "SNL" performers — "See, that's interesting," he says; feeding sidekick Robin Quivers cookies like a trained seal, rewarding her for laughing at his comments; and presenting as entertainment two half-naked lesbians rolling on the floor and a man on his hands and knees passing gas into a
microphone.

The insanity escalates. When Stern suggests that Michaels needs to "check his underwear" for evidence of nervousness, the animated Michaels orders a flunky to do it for him. When Stern is shot by a Michaels-hired sniper, Michaels is forced to revive him, mouth-to-mouth, after an NBC peacock reports huge ratings for Stern on "SNL."

The cartoon ends with Michaels forsaking all integrity to create a new TV and film franchise: "Saturday HowardNight LiveStern."

Saturday, October 10, 1998:

Good News at Last!!  "The Howard Stern Radio Show" rose more than half a point to 3.5/9.  Even though the show is still in 3rd place, it has gained ground 3 weeks in a row, this week, with it's most significant increase yet!

NBC's "Saturday Night Live" ran the best of Dana Carvey, 7.3/19.  Fox's "Mad TV" had a 4.4/9.

Saturday, October 3, 1998:

Kelsey Grammer hosted "SNL" with musical guests Sheryl Crow and a special performance by Shaquille O'Neal, 7.2/19. On Fox, "Mad TV" had a 4.6/10.  Howard Stern's ratings showed a slight increase with a 2.9/7.

Saturday, September 26, 1998:

The Season Premiere of "Saturday Night Live," garnered a strong 7.9.  On FOX, "Mad TV" came in second place again with a 4.6/10. "The Howard Stern Radio Show", coming in third place again, recieved a 2.7.  It's been in third place since debuting in the number 2 slot.  This is not a bad place to be in, as the show has proven it can hold at #3, and has guaranteed a GOLD MINE in advertising dough for CBS.  Howard basically has one season to figure out how to dethrone SNL, in my opinion.  He will either be a goat or the #1 man in television.  And knowing his track record, look out SNL!!
