Introduction
Tawau is one of the major towns in Sabah, the 'Land Below The Wind'. Situated at the southern most of Sabah, it is a fast developing town. It is conveniently situated and easily accessible. Malaysian Airlines operate 42 Boeing 737 and 9 Fokker flights weekly from Kota Kinabalu and vice versa. Flight time is about 40 minutes.
Her population comprises of various ethnic groups, which resulted in a multicolored harmonious traditions and cultures. This is especially obvious when considering the fact that she is a close neighbour of the Southern Islands of the Philippines and Kalimantan province of the Republic of the Indonesia. Tawau has always been a a major entry port for people from this two neighbouring countries. In fact Tawau is one of the major ports for Sabah. Her population is not less than 200,000.
Soils of Tawau is well known as very fertile volcanic soil. Due to this, apart from having rich aquaculture and marine life, Tawau is also an agriculture base town. Timber was not very long ago a major economic activity of this active town.
