Featherboards
Figure A
Cut a 3/4" board to 8" X 8"
Figure B
Cut a 30 degree angle
Figure C
Set fence to outside of blade distance to 5 3/8". Set a stop block on the
fence to limit the kerfs and so they end up equal. The length of the kerfs
is up to you... longer fingers makes a "softer" featherboard.
Allow the saw to come to a complete stop before moving the fence during the all cutting sequences. Using 1/8" kerf blade, cut 1st kerf. Move fence toward blade 3/8", cut 2nd kerf,
and so on...moving fence 3/8" after each cut until you have 7 fingers.
Make sure my math is ok... what you want is 1/4" fingers. Very important to move fence toward
the blade rather than away so there's always a solid board against the fence instead of cut feathers.
Figure D
Drill 5/16" holes (if you're going to use 1/4" bolts) centered and 1"
from ends as shown
Figure E
Using router table and 5/16" straight or spiral bit, route and
connect the 2 holes as shown. repeat for other side.
Figure F
Cut off about 1/2" of area as shown for feather clearance.
Figure G
Cut off the other end as shown (optional)
Figure H
Round off the corners
Figure I
Done
You can vary any or all of these numbers...just follow this sequence.
Hope it's clear... if not, I'm only an email away!
